I just had a Dexa scan last week and I am waiting for the test results. I am so upset with myself and mad at my Chiropractor.

After reading my results two weeks ago from two exrays one in June 2001 and the other done June 2003. I found out that I had mild osteoporsis in 2001 now moderate osteoporsis in 2003.I have read that once a exray finds osteoporsis you alreay have 50% to 70% bone loss.

I went to my Chiropractor for neck and back pain. He said I had degenerative disc disease. He never told me I had Osteoporsis. If I was told I would gone to regular doctor and started some kind of treatment in 2001.I have appointment this Thursday to see the Chiropractor and I do not know whether to just cancel the appointment or just go in and tell him how mad and upset I am that he never told me I had Osteoporsis.

I feel so stupid that I did not ask for a copy of
my exray report. I do not know how to get over how I feel about my Chiropractor and myself.

Before you rail at your Chiropractor, an X-ray does not give information as to bone loss. Only a Dexa Scan can do that. Your chiropractor would not have been privvy to that info. just from an X-ray. He would, however, been able to determine some degeneration of discs and arthritis which, I think you stated, is what he told you you had.

Thanks for your reply.

But I have a radiology report from a Imaging Consultant that I got from my Chiropractor that says I have Osteoporosis.

I believe that from an xray they can get a gist of your bone health. When I had xrays of my hands they were able to tell me I had thinning bones in my wrist, that was a year ago but I already knew of the osteoporosis in my lumbar and hips from a dexa 5 years earlier. So they should be able to pick up on any thinning I weould think.

To NancyH thanks for your to the point and intelligent reply to my message.

My last reply was mean spirited. As a new member I do not know if I can say that about a reply.I came to this board to learn more about osteporosis no't to get upset by a reply that seem to be saying that I did not know what in the world I was talking about and that I was some how lying about my Chiropractor.

Dear Bennie,

I did not in any way, shape or form intend my reply to be mean-spirited & I cannot fathom why you interpreted it as such. I was simply responding to information about X-rays and what can and cannot be obtained from them. I never said, or even intimated, that
you did not know "what in the world you were talking about" or that you were "lying about your Chiropractor"! Good grief! Please do not put words in my mouth. I do not judge others but, obviously, my comments were not helpful to you, so please just disregard them.

I wish you well on your road to wellness.

All the best!

Peregrine
