Hi, I'm male, 31, and have bad osteoporosis. My siblings, mother and grand mother all have brittle bones as well.
I've been doing weight bearing exercise, taking calcium and ipriflavone supplements. I recently had my second two yearly bone scan, and despite my natural medicine efforts, it has come back a lot worse - especially in my lower spine where my T score is -3.3 from L2 to L4.
My endocrinologist wants me to try Fosamax, but my mother had some bad side effects, so I'm reluctant to do so. Actonel is my other alternative. Just wondering if anyone has had any side effects? By all the posts, it seems Fosamax is one lousy drug. Does anyone have any other natural remedies?
I'm freaking out! I'll take any tips or advice...... thanks!

Liquid Calcium/Magnesium (at least as much as the Calcium)/vitamin D/vitamin K/. Divide your cal/mag into two doses - AM and PM - for maximum absorption. Continue weight bearing exercise.
I tried all the osteo drugs and had the same toxic reaction to them all. Some people here report that the nasal spray causes the least side-effects.
All the best!

Thanks Peregrine! I appreciate the advice.
I'll look into the nasal spray, although I havn't heard of that particular product here in Oz.

Hi Lukebones,
I'm probably butchering the name of the nasal spray, but I think this is close - Milcalcin. Some report that it leaves a "fishy" taste in the mouth. Personally, my body doesn't tolerate any of those meds and some here have reported that they actually contribute to further bone loss and can make the bones more brittle; thus, easier to break.
I imagine that there is an unbalancing of our system with any medication, but of course this is for each individual to decide. I would, however, research it first on google. In addition, all these products are expensive, but maybe your system of health care is different in Oz.
Let us know how you fare!

I'm a 46 year old male and I've been taking the weekly 70mg dose of Fosamax for about a month and a half with absolutely NO side effects. My unsolicited advice is to quit worrying about side effects until you actually experience them yourself. The silent majority of users are just fine on this drug.
