Hello,

It has been awhile since I have posted a note about Concerta. My 14 yr old son has been taking it for almost a year. By far, the best med that he has taken yet for ADHD and the coverage is wonderful for Jr. high & HS. My question is about dosage. I know that the manufactors suggests a max dose of 54 or 56mg per day. My son's metabolism is very fast and has always had to use to upper dose of any med that we have tried (he was dx w/ ADHD when he was in 3rd grade). He is presently taking 90 mgs a day (2x 36mg + 1x 18mg), and prior to that was perscribed 108 mg, which 2 pediatricians authorized, as well as a pharmacist. His present ped suggested that we try 2x 36 mgs and 1x 18 mg. Sounds good to me and so far is looking promising. Does anyone else out there take that much? I notice that we get about 6-8 hours coverage but my son communicates very well with us about the affectiveness, and always has, and says that this medication is, by far, the most effective he has taken. He is also a highest honor student and a national champion in the sport that he competes in. He finds that Concerta really gives him the edge to stay focused in class, as well as when he competes. I reduced him to 2x 36 mg per day (72 mg total) in the summer, just to see how things would go, and it was obvious that we were definately missing the mark with emotional outbursts, major lack of focus, difficult family interactions, etc. . He agreed. Any feedback?
