I am 31 and new at this, so bear with me. I first showed the signs of ADD when I was in the 5th grade. My parents and teachers thought it might help if they sent me to a 'shrink'. For 3 years I was sent to psychatrists, and school counselers, but none of them helped. Finally my parents took me to a doctor.

He diagnosed me with ADD. He proscribed dexatrin, and it worked great. It helped me to concentrate, but it also made me less hungry and I began to lose weight. Despite the side effect, my parents kept me on it for 3 years. After that time, my ADD seem to go away. In the past ten years, I've tried to find a job. But my ADD made it difficult. In the fall of 92' my uncle started his own maintainance business, and asked if I would like to help him. I agreed, and have worked with him ever since. In August 1997, on the advice of my mother, I went to see a popular doctor, who worked almost next door to my previous doctor.

He put me on Desipramine. After a couple of days, I started showing signs of improvment. I suddenly had more energy, and was able to concentrate even more than I had when I was on Dexatrin. After about a year, the effects started to wear down. So the doctor suggested that I increase the dosage. Slowly, day by day I increased my dosage by 25mg, on the advice of my doctor. After 2 days I showed signifigant improvment, and I now take 200mg a day. I've been taking Desipramine for over 3 years now, and it seems to be working. I'd like to know if anyone else is taking Desipramine, and if it's working for them. I'd sure like to know I'm not the only one!

Thanks!

I took it for 2 months. It made me depressed at night, now i just eat very strictly, because i am going to compete in bodybuilding. Eat strict and not like a pig, get off that **** and deal with it yourself. I have a very bad case of adhd, ive almost been kicked out of everything you can imagine because of my impulses, im 20 years old and still crazed but it gets easier every year. Throw the crutches and walk and soon you will run with the best of them.

wow - I went through the very same thing. I'm 36 now, female.
Back then, they didn't know what to do with me. What I wouldn't give to have those years back on meds.
I'm only two weeks into my meds. Ritalin and Metadate CD. My doctor wants me to experiment to find what works best for me.
Why Desipramine? There's so much to learn.
