Hi guys,
Listen, I've been on oxycontin minus the three months I had no insurance, which than I was put on straight onycodone, basically oxy w/o being time relesased.
My question is, it isn't doing it anymore. I'm on 60mg two times a day. I tried to explain to my dr. that it doesnt last tweleve hours, and he said it's just because i wasn't on a high enough dosage and he increase it. I still split it up three times a day, so i'm taking 40 three times a day. I am stil in alot of pain.
Would the patch provide the same relief if not better relief, more constant. I want to try something that doesn't have those damn ups and downs. And without breakthru meds....i am miserable.
Any suggestions????
Love and hugs,
dayna

in Hey Dayna, The patch works great for some but docs need to be flexable with the patch too. The literature says 60-72 hours relief if you read the fine print. Some folks experience withdrawal after 50 hours acording to some users. We all are different and it sounds like your present doc although he's trying is trying to jam a square peg in a round whole insisting that OxyC lasts 12 hours.
It never hurts to have a back doc and you haven't broken any contract until you fill a script from a new doc. YOu can look around and if you find someone more agressive than your present doc I would let him know you switching docs to try a new therapy. It's never a good idea to burn bridges.
If he's hung up on 12 hour Oxy he may have problems with adjusting your dose of Duragesic. Some ins co won't pay for more frequent patch changes.
The question of how long a med works was the reason I asked to try Kadian. I knew it would last 12 and maybe 24. BID dosing is aproved in Kadian literature so he wouldn't be going against manufacturer guidelines. I have never feel it wear off or kick in, It's truley the smoothest time release on the market.
Unfortunately I only have a few more weeks and must switch to generic MSO4 SR untill the pump is all worked out. Good luck and really, think about a new doc. He doesn't sound too flexable, and with pain treatment you have to be. Take care, David

Thanks sweety,
I knew I could count on you. So I'm getting that you're so/so on the patch. Correct? Anything has got to better, but if something else is better, bring it on, lol.
It's weird seeing you here and there...just can't get enough of me huh? It's funny, cuz i love both places, in different ways. But i think the certain few people in both places make the reason, the reason.
Thanks,
love and hugs,

Hey Dayna, If your tolerate morphine and your ins will pay for Kadian, That would be my choice. You won't have to worry about it lasting and standing up to the manufacturer claims.
Some Docs can be sticklers about Duragesic and 72 hour changes . I also see docs expecting duragesic to be this super powerful med that folks shouldn't have a problem with BT pain. AS long as your doc believes in BT meds I guess Duragesic is worth a try.
I'm definitely sold on Kadian though. I hate having to switch after spending so much time finding the right med and right dose. Oh well, Good luck, David

Hi Lady!,
I'm thinking the problem is more your doc, than the med. I did'nt start getting good pain relief until I got to the 60-80mg TID mark with Oxy. Presently at 80mg TID with 60mg as needed for B/T's - and thats doing okay fo now.
Please investigate a Pain Management doc, and see what they can do for you, before kissing off your old doc! As time goes on, a good pain doc on your team makes all the difference. As you know, my situation has gotton worse, and without a doc willing to change with me - I would be screwed, stewed, and Tattoo'd!!
As Dave said, they have to be flexible, not much help if they refuse to help you. How prevalent are PM docs in your area? Would you have to drive far to see one? Even so, I think it would be worth you checking out, see what's available. If the patch needed changing at the 48 hr mark, you would be right back in the same boat. And the refusal on B/T meds also bites. My understanding [like my doc did to me] is after 6 months or so, with no probs, my doc started with the B/T meds, slowly to see if I would ball it up {me? :D] and slowly has increased his trust of me, and my input.
Only want the best for you kiddo, please check-out what's available around you....I KNOW it SUCKS starting with another doc, but long-term - you will be more comfortable, and therefore better off-IMO :D
Take care [good to see ya here, there, anywhere!]

Hi guys,
I had a pain management doctor but he started wanting to go down on my pain meds and that to me didn't make any sense, when I was in more pain. There might be a more aggressive one in the area, actually I am sure there is living close (one hour) from Boston, Ma there has to be something.
My doctor is just a family doctor. He tries hard, but does go by the book. If i told him it wasn't cutting it though, i think he would adjust it. That's basically what i'm trying to do, get some info on meds. What is better oxy or something else. I like the relief I get from the oxycontin but i don't like the pain in between.
love and hugs to you all,
dayna
