Hello Group,
My name is Scott, and to put it bluntly, I'm going through HELL!! I just had my second round of Facet injections and am now on my third set of ESI injections. Guess what? THEY'RE NOT WORKING!! I just told my Pain Management Doctor...NO MORE. I think they are doing more bad than good....I spoke with my Ortho DR he also said to stop because they can make it worse even if they do help by creating more scar tissue. So now I am stuck with nothing but medication and my R/S medical machine to try to get rid of some of the pain. Anyone here of anything new to try to try to take away some of the pain from damaged nerves. I'm already on Oxycodone and Neurotin......PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Scott

Hi Scott,

What is your injury? You mentioned Facet blocks have not helped. I just had my second lot in c5/6 and have found them great for reducing the neck and nerve pain. It is interesting you mentioned the possibility they can cause scar tissue. This makes sense and I wonder if that is what is reducing their effectiveness for you. Have you tried accupunture? it can help with pain and may help reduce some of your medication. Have you had nerve block injections? I was thinking of trying one but I don't know much about them yet. I wish there were more answers and I guess everybody does here. Take care,
Mel

Hi Scott,Me again,, You really need to find an aggresive PM doc. I'm not sure if your RF machine is like TENS but I imagine they are for nerve pain/leg pain. They do help some folks to some degree.

If the comp system gives you strong enough pain killers to help it's like admitting there is something wrong with you. Personally I would look for a PM doc outside of your comp network to get an unbiased opinion. If Nerontin isn't working there are other meds, Topamax, Dilanatin,Klonopin, etc. Managing pain with meds takes some time to find the right combo so hang in there and keep complaining untill you find something that works for you. Take care, David

I have had several different injections and any relief was only temporary.

Most of the time these shots are diagonstic first to see if this is your pain generator.
I have had facet diagnostic injections 2x's and both times I had no relief. The pain was so intense after the first injection I thought possibly some damage was done but I came out of it fine........so I do empathize with you and the pain.
Good for you for saying NO more! I did the same thing.

Scott,
I'm sorry you are in so much pain. It is Hell!! A word of advice- if you think the injections are making you worse rather than better, then please stop and think about them. They can cause a condition called arachnoiditis, and the drs don't like to talk about this. Do you have any other options to treat the pain? what has your pain specialist recommended?

Glenda

Hi,
My name is Jeanette
I am scheduled for my first facet nerve block this Fri. My Dr. never told me about the horrible side effects I am reading about. I am scared out of my whits. I have spinalstenosis and three buldging discs in my lower back and they cause me a great deal of pain and discomfort. The back surgeon feels I am not a candidate for surgery as I might end up worse off. If I get a few hrs.
of relife they will do it a second time. It is my understanding that this is a test to besure this is my problem and they have the correct spot to do the real thing. The third time and only if time two helped they will do the third process which is called radiofrequency. This is performed while patient is sedatded and with use of a fluoroscope. Radiowaves are used to to desensitize the desired nerves. This procedure takes less than a half hour and can give lasting relife for up to two years.
Has anyone had possitive results with this procedure?
Please respond. i would appreciate it if you would respond asap.
Thanks.
Jeanette

Hi Scott, I have just completed the shots and they didn't help either, They are going to try breaking up my scar tissue in a couple of weeks and my PM said if this doesn't help then he is going to try a SCS. I have a spinal fusion at levels L4,L5,S1 with alot of hardware inserted too. I have been on the same kind of medication too but the Neurotin didn't work and they dropped my pain meds down to Lortabs 4 times a day. I hate being on them too. Well I wish you all the luck and know what you are feeling. Ask your doctor about breaking up the scar tissue, the procedure is called Epidurolysis (Racz)

I have just had two Facet nerve blaocks two weeks apart. These were tests to be sure the Dr. had right area etc. They seemed to go good now I am scheduled to have a radiofrequency ablation done on the lower lumber. I have spinal stenosis an three buldging disks in the lower back.
I hope this helps, I had three unsuccesfull epidorals by a different DR. I don't know why he continued when first and second did not help.

Has anyone had a radiofrequency ablation done? I would like to know if it worked? For how long you were pain free? Did you have any serious pain after ablation and did it last hrs.,days.weeks or longer? Was it worth it?
Hope someone that knows anything about this wll answer soon as iIam sceduled for this procedue on Fri. 11/19
