I've been taking Duragesic patches 75 and Lortab 10 for breakthrough pain. I've been on the Duragesic for about a year and I've developed a tolerance to it, so I asked my doc to switch me to oxycontin (he prescribed 40s, 2 of them, twice a day. Here's my concern: a few years back another doc prescribed oxycontin and it was fine for the first two days, then I developed horrendous itching, but no rash or breathing problems. I've done some research on the net recently, and have found info that it CAN cause itching, but that doesn't mean you're allergic...so I thought I'd give it another shot again now. I'm a bit nervous about the itching and maybe actual allergy signs (like trouble breathing, as I once had with MS Contin)...has anyone had trouble with a lot of itching with Oxycontin, and if so, did it go away if you chose to stick with it? Also, since I seem to have a high tolerance now to the Duragesic, does this dosage of Oxycontin seem comparable to the Duragesic dose or perhaps stronger? I haven't picked up my oxy script yet, just really wanted some feedback from anyone who has personal knowledge or otherwise with the itching. Thanks.
