I have been reading the message board from many of you who have the same problem I have. I was in a terrible car accident almost a year ago. I had a shattered hip, pelvis, wrist, and a broken elbow and leg. I was very lucky to come out of it alive. Spent 3 weeks in the hospital and had 3 surgeries. The doctor did not think I was going to walk without a hip replacement (didn't want to do it cause I'm still young....36). He gave me Norco to take for pain. I have been taking that ever since. My orthopedist released me 3 weeks ago and now I can't find a doctor to give me pain medicine. Some days I can hardly get out of the bed. When it is cold it is so much worse. I have so much hardware in my hip...it hurts to walk, sit, and can't sleep at night. How do we get these drs to understand the pain we are in. The people that abuse these medicines ruin it for those of us that really need it. Can anyone give me any sugestions???? Thanks for listening...just wanted to get this off my chest with people who understand.....

You need a pain management doctor. If you need a referral due to your insurance, ask for it from your general practition doctor.

I wish I knew the answer to your question. It seems like DRs don't mind getting us to this point with the pain we are in but then have no idea what to do next. Last several days my hands(carpal tunnel R wrist surgery didn't work also fell on both of them 8 months later)have been terrible but the Pain DR I see won't give me anything stronger than what she been giving me. I hope you are able to find a DR that will help you. I'm sure they are out there. Just hard to find. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply Irishcream. What kind of pain meds are you on? Going to a new dr tomorrow with my records...hoping I will have some luck on getting pain meds. Don't know I'm going to do if she does not give me any. Guess I will have to keep looking...that's gonna get expensive even with a co-pay. What is carpal tunnel? I have heard of it just don't know what it is. Wish me luck....

Carpal Tunnel is when a nerve in your arm (it runs from you shoulder to your wrist)gets pinched or damaged in some way. Carpal tunnel is what they call in when it is at your wrist. I'm on Roxicet(5 mg percocet and 325 mg Aspirin or whatever it is) doesn't work for me. DR won't put me on anything else. She tells me to try other stuff (biofeedback, etc) I use a TENS unit and a heating pad but heck I can't walk around all day with either of those. I hope you are able to get relief when you see your DR.
