Hi Tiddgbys

Had a terrible experience with the pain pump......Went in Monday for surgery. When I woke up, the pain in my back and tummy was pretty rough, so they were giving me morphine shots......seemed like a lot. I was put in a bed finally, and was ok. My friend came to see me and I noticed that I could not see out of my glasses, and I knew something was wrong, but ignored it. The pain pump was set too. Do not know what level, but was told on medium. The next thing I knew I was in Intensive Care..........and doctors were all over me. I heard someone say "she's back" then I say the pain doc and noticed he turned the pump on .05, which is as low as it goes. It seems that I went code blue and stopped breathing. They called my husband at 5 AM Tuesday morning and said that I was in ICU but I was fine, and that they overdosed me..........Scary.; Tuesday evening I transfered to a regular room. I felt terrible, just sick, and noticed I had fever. The doc would come and look at me and said you are staying for a while. Was so sick, did not question anything. Then I noticed they were giving med oxygen 24 hours a day, taking blood and chest xrays. Finally on Friday night at 8pm a new doc shows up and says I have phenomia. Finally I was released on Saturday evening to go home, rest and get the phenomia over with. So here I am, the pain pump is set so low, that it's not helping much. The pain doc says they will adjust me very slowly. Glad to be alive...........

Michell,
Hi and thanks for getting back to me..

You poor little mite i am so sorry you had such a terrible time, But i am a fraid something like this will happen to me As so many people keep saying to me oh it is a piece of cake! Yet the Pyschologist i see said to me this is a very invasive procedure, i have respect for her for warning me..

When i had my fusion tons of things went wrong and i was in hospital for two weeks and then had home care nurses for three months so you can see why i am a whimp..

How are you feeling now? Another freind told me you have to take it easy for the first 8 weeks so that the Pump and catherter can fix in place so no bending twisting and also to let the incision heal, does that sound about right?

Also to expect your pain to be high maybe for up to a year on and off untill they get your medication at the right levels..

I don't know about you Michell but if i am told these things in advance i do not mind the wait as i will be prepared..

Please keep in touch..

I am just waiting for a letter to invite me for the trial..

Tiddgys x
