I just started taking Avinza two weeks ago. I am up to 90mgs a day and still am having break through pain anywhere from 3to 6 hours. When I take a Percocet during thia time its helps so much getting through this. Is this normal with any of the pain pills to get break through pain? Is there anything that will truely make the pain go away?
Help,
Vicky

Hi Vicky...I was on Oxycontin for about 3 months before weaning myself off of it and I was taking percocet for BT pain and yes it did help but I decided to give up a little comfort to save my body in the long run from all the narcotics I was on. Oxycontin percocet and dilaudid. I tried every NSAID going over a 10 year period Naproxen, Celebrex, Vioxx and a bunch of others alone and in combination. They ruined my stomach after that long and I am now on Losec and Ranitidine (prescription Zantac). I was just put on OXY IR and neutronin yesterday by my PM doc and the Oxy works just as good as the percocet but without any tylenol to damage the liver. I was put on the 10mg one tab 3 times a day. And though I am far from pain free my spirits are up because I am not I walking pharmacy like I was 30mg of Oxy a day as compared to the 60mg I was taking is a big step for me.
Anyway what I think your base med is is morphine right?
I guess you could try the morphine IR since its the same drug or if you are already on the percocet for BT ask for the OXY IR with no tylenol. It might be your base med that needs ajusting if you are always having BT pain. I would if you havent already done so ask our new member who is a pain specialist. I wish you the best and God bless.
Autumn.

Thank you Autumn Angel. Yes my main med is morphine based. Since I recently changed from the military doctors to this pain management clinic at least they are tring others meds besides percocet. The Avinza seems to be working but I still have that bt pain. I will see about asking for the Oxy. What do you mean by thr ri or is it ir? I did post a question to the other newcomer this morning. I will see what other suggestions I get. I don't see the doctor until 4th of June. I still have percocet left from my other doctors so I will be ok until then.
Thank you again for your suggestion. I will see about asking the doc.

Nix,

I too like Autumn take Oxy IR the IR means Immediate Release. I take methadone for my main med. The Oxy IR is a wonderful BT pain med. It takes affect for me when in 15 minutes. I hope this helps. I'm glad that you are getting some relief from your meds. Now you can start living life again.

Oxy IR is the same as Oxycondin? I'm trying to figure out what some these meds are. I have a pill book at home plus reading the information yoiu can find on the web about all the meds. As long as you tke the meds according to what your doctor tells you and everything will be fine. It's when you take them other ways you get yourself into trouble. I called the doctors office to leve a message for the nurse to see if they upped my base med Avinza to 120mg if that will take away the bt? Since of being on percocet for 2 years I think my body has high tolerance for things..So finding something that works might be a tough one..
Have a Great day,
vicky
I will keep you posted on what the doc's office says..

Hi Vicky I know its confusing but I will try and set things straight for you. Oxycontin is a time release form of Oxycodone released over a 12 hr period it contains only oxycodone and comes in 10mg 20mg 40mg and 80mg. Percocet is oxycodone 5mg and 325mg tylenol in the same tablet it is Immediate release. OXY IR or instant release is Oxycodone and NO Tylenol it is instant release like a Perc just no tylenol it comes is 5mg and 10mg like I am on. I am not sure if they have higher strengths in that one. I dont think upping your base med will take care of the BT because I had mine upped from 10mg to 20mg when I was on the Oxycontin and it didnt do a thing. I would suggest asking for the OXY IR for BT it is a Godsend and NO tylenol to harm your liver. Hope this helped you some I will check back later to see if you have more questions. Have a great day :)
Autumn.

Autum Angel,
I o to the PM doc this coming up thursday (22nd) and hopfully can come up some cocktail to get rid of this pain. I have had for two and just getting worse the military doctors seemed to think that Percocet was gold and good for everything. Thanks goodness to my pm doc showed me there are other meds in this world for pain. I hope I get something this week that finaly be my answer. I keep living with this pain. I know everyone here can relate. If anyone else as any ideas I open for suggestions. I will bring this up to my doc about adding Oxy IR to my daily workload. I will keep you posted.
Thank you again for all the info,
Vicky

Nix,

I have to agree with Autumn. Unfortunatly there is no med that will take away all the pain. You will probably always have BT pain. Thats why they give you meds for BT pain. I do like the Oxy IR I'm on the 10mgs one as well. I can take up 2omg of Oxy IR up to 4 times a day. Granted that is rare that I have to do that tho. I find that it starts to work with-in 15 to 20 minutes after I take it . There is also Oxyfast which is 20mgs of oxycodone in liquid form. I believe it takes effect even faster hence the name. I do hope that you and your doc can get the right mix of meds. It can take awhile to get it just right, so be patient. Hang in there and by all means keep us informed on what your doc doe's. Take care...

Hi Vicky...Percocet is a pretty good med usually but you are right there are other meds that can work just as well or better. I was on Dilaudid for awhile it is the strongest narcotic in pill form I was taking 2mg of it at bedtime and it was great for helping me sleep pain free. But I went off that when I cut down my meds the oxy ir is great though nothing will take my pain away completley but its darn close. I wish you the best of luck at your PM appt and keep us updated ok?
Autumn
