Hey Matt :) How ya doing tonight? I went to the clinic and saw my PM. He agreed with the idea he gave me the percocet to be taken 2 a day in conjunction with the oxy ir. I posted on our nice IBS thread the idea I had but I guess you didnt see it in time for an opinion. Hope work was BUSY for you today. Talk to you later. Say hi to your wife for me too shes a lucky lady to have such a strong husband and in turn you are lucky too. Going through this alone can be a drag for me but this board as been great to me.

Hey,

I just got home. I read the other thread. And yes I do agree with you on this and I'm glad that you PM doc agrees as well. This should help give you a more steady dose of medicine in your system. Since you are going to school and looking for work just having the extra stress on your system is not good. This should help you to be able to function alot better now.

I think that I'm the lucky one. I do have a wonderful wife. And I'm quit fortunate to have wonderful friends like you Autumn. You have know Idea how much it has meant tot me to be able to talk and share with you. And today was somewhat busy, not like yesterday at all thank God!!

Again I'm happy that you went to the doc and got the increase in meds. But you know that you are never alone. I will always be there for you as long as you will have me....

Hi Matt...I am glad you agreed with my idea your opinion means alot to me as you know. And it looks like yer stuck with me my friend. People like you dont come along very often so I will keep ya :). So how is your pain today? Does it ever let less? I was reading your daily routine again and I dont know how you do all that and then go to work? And what is a TENS Unit I think I remember reading what it was on another thread but I am too lazy to search for it lol. Well my weekend is going to be boring its a long weekend here in Canada called Victoria Day so Fireworks Monday and no school till Tuesday so this will give me a few days to try out my new med schedule too. I hope it works. He gave me enough for a month. I am glad it was busier at work that yesterday...When my days get to busy thats when the headaches get worse having to think too fast and try and get everything done is kinda tough. My girls are great though helping with the house and stuff. I have a few friends I talk to on MSN that I have known for a couple years and they are very supportive as well and call me often to see how I am. When I said I am going through this alone I meant no partner to be there daily for love and encouragement but thats my choice too since my last relationship 5 years ago was with a cheat with my condition and all I just dont feel like putting my emotions out there again and my girls are enough to make me happy for now. Anyway no more rambling lol. Talk to you later and have a wonderful pain free night.
Your friend
Autumn.

Autumn,

Thanks for the kind words again. You are stronger than you think as well. To raise daughter and be in pain and go to school and the such . I don't know how you do it either.

Well about my routine. Oh and first off my pain was pretty bad this afternoon. I had to come home from work at 4:00 this afternoon. I got on my TENS unit and layed on some Ice and took my Oxy IR and soma. I just took my evening dose of methadone as well. A TENS unit is a stimulator of sorts. There are 8 leds that I attach to my back. It has two programs that I run evertime I put it on. The first program is for pain and the second program is for my muscles to relax. Both programs take about 45 minutes to complete. Now about my daily routine. I get up at 5:30 everymorning. First I take my morning dose of meds. Some for the pain some for my heart and some for my liver. 12 pills in all for the morning dose. Then I get on my stationary bike and ride it for anywhere for 1/2 hour to an hour if I can. Then put on the TENS unit for my first go around with it. I do that while I get on the computer and talk with you my friend and others. Then I go and iron my clothes for the day and hit the shower. Then like today I go to PM docs office for PT and triggerpiont injections. I do this on monday wedsday and fridays. Then I go to work. then on my lunch hour I go for my 5 mile walk, which usely takes me around 45 minuets to an hour depending on how bad my legs hurt.
Then I work until 6-7:00 depend again on how busy I am or of course had bad my pain level is. Then come home and eat dinner and put on the tens unit for my last time and get on my computer and talk with you my friend and other of course. So thats basically my rountine. Some days it is harder than others of course. But I'm in the habit of it and just like any other habit when I miss any part of it I feel all out of whack. Well more out of whack than I normally am LOL.

I know it sounds like alot of work, and somedays it is. But I know if I ever stop doing it thats the day I lay down and give up. Autumn thanks again for your loving words and friendship. You do mean alot to me now. You are part of my day that I look forward to. I know that it must be hard for you sometimes doing all that you do with out a companion. I know for me I wouldn't of made it with out CharLee. Thats my wifes name. She is the one reason that I can say that I able to get up everyday and do what I do. I owe her my life. She is the reason I am. So you see my friend you are the couragous one. Doing what you do and staying so positive. Your children are lucky to have such a wonderful mother. Well take and write soon.....

Matt

Hi Matt...Your wife has a beautiful name. I let my youngest daughter have 2 friends sleep over tonight I am not feeling too bad so I figured I would let her while I wasnt too bad off.
Yes I love fireworks too I feel like a kid again when we buy them and set them off then we usually go to the big display down at the beach its a wonderful show.
I still say you are like superman all you have to do to just get through your day. You have become a part of my day as well its funny I was thinking about you just after I saw my Pm doc when I was waiting for my script to be filled I was thinking " When I get home I have to post to Matt before I do anything else because I know he will want to know what happend" I have never done that before I usually get here when I get here and not worry about it.
So yes you have become a regular part of my day as well.
I wish we could chat on MSN too probably be up till all hours lol...as it is I am up till about 12 I have to be real tired and have my meds in me before I can sleep. I have seen others post thier emails here but I know its against the rules and they are deleted by the bosses here. I am just thankful we have found this board and became friends and can support each other like we do because even though we have special people in our lives I think only someone in chronic pain can truley understand what another is going through. Well I wont keep ya reading any longer. Have a wonderful night and a BUSY day at work tomorrow :)

There are alot of times I want to post to you while at work because I always think that you would enjoy a thought that has come to mind. Oh well. Hey Autumn -

I read your opening post in this thread, and I have a question.

Why is your doc having you take Oxy IR and Percocet together?

They are the exact same med except for the Tylenol. Why not ditch the expense of the percs and just take the Oxy and a couple of Tylenol? You didn't mention the mgs. on either med - are they different?

Just curious!?!

Dawn in NH

PS: I just read in another thread that your Oxy IR is 10 mg. So, I just answered my own question. However, I won't edit the post out since it might be educational for people who aren't as "enlightned" as we are - lol!!

Hey Autumn.

Sorry to hear about the heating pad. Talk about your hot seats LOL. I got home about an hour ago. Thats 6:00 my time. Thank god I'm home YeeHaw. THe weekend is finally here. Today was steady so it went fairly fast today.

I'm glad that your daugther had some fun last night. So how are you doing with the new med schedule. I know from your post that you didn't start it right off the bat. So anyway whats your Idea. I would love to hear about it. I love your signature. I thougt about doing it. But then I thought about it and it would take up a whole page HAHA. No but seriously it would take up way to much room and I think that people would get annoyed from it being so large.

I'm so glad that I have the next two days off tho. I'm really tired and sore tonight, more so than usual. It could be I'm still sufferring from yesterdays major flare up. My better half and me are planning to go see the new matrix show tommorrow. And thats the only plans we have and I'm glad. I do need a little of a rest. Well post back as soon as possible. I've look froward to posting to you tonight..

Good Morning Matt :) I am sorry about scaring ya ;) I had a wonderful BullMastiff Named Ajah she was mine and my kid's baby. She was a beautiful fawn brindle female we got her as a pup in 1990 and she died in 1995 after I spent over 2,000 to save her life. Anyway This is kinda relivant to the pain board because I had my pain condition when I had my dog and crazy as it sounds she knew when I was in pain and she was always there and petting her actually helped gives ya that things are gonna be ok attitude. Matt I really dont want to do into this on the pain board but I know just how you and your wife feel, I have been blessed with 3 lovely daughters all healthy. But my oldest daughter will never have children. She was born with a very rare disorder Mayer Ratinsky Kuster Hauser Syndrome. The absence of the uterus, cervix and upper third of the canal. She had to have extensive therapy at Sick Kids in Toronto to even be able to function sexually. She was 17 when we found out when she failed to get her period she is 21 now. She plans on invitro with her sister my now 18yr old as the surrogate when the time comes she figures 6 years. Anyway we can relate to you and your wife in that dept. I spent last night with a headache and I am sorry I scared ya. Its nice having someone notice when your not around. I will be here through out the day and I hope you are enjoying your day off :)

Hey Hey,

I'm glad that your posted back. I was worried abit. But now that your posting I'm fine now. Well about ole grizz. He is a great dog. And yes having him in my life has been some great therapy. Its kindof cool that he too recognizes when I'm hurting as well. He will not leave my side when I'm bad off. Now my wifes Dog cheyenne is a different story. He is so hyper that I don't think that he can slow down enough to care LOL. But he doe's recognize to wheen I'm hurtung as well. He will check in on me from time to time to see if I'm up and around. He is a great dog as well. Don't worry about posting about our lack of having children. We have come to terms with along time ago. We have lots of nieces and nephews that we get to baby sit alot. so they kind of feel in the gap and so do our dogs. I do hope that headache is better. I hate headaches. So what is it that you wanted to ask me. Our was it about your signature, which I think is great by the way. I'm so sorry to hear about your daugther. It has to be tough for her. It will probably take her a while to come to terms with the child thing. And also the feelings of rejections she is sure to face with forth coming boyfriends. I do feel for her. Tell her for me that she is in my prayers. My pain this morning is OK so far. I really needed to have some time this weekend to recoup if ya know what I mean. Well Autumn. Lets post to one another thru out the day. I do so look forward to talking with you...

Hi Matt :) My daughter has a wonderful boyfriend she has been with over a year now she lives with him and his family about 2 hours from me. They both just graduated college in April and her boyfriends father got them both jobs at a Spa place. He knows about her condition and it doesnt bother him at all there is a way they can have children when they are ready. Our government is passing funding for Invitro for girls like her that were born with a condition that prevents them from carrying a child. Have a nice day Matt :)

Hey Autumn,

Hey I do know what you mean ;). I did read carefuly and I think its a wonderful name for a cat. I'm so glad that your daughter has a wonderful man in her life. She is very fortunate. Not to many people are like her boyfriend. I always thought that a true measure of friend is that when the hard time come your friends stay true to you and are always there. Well let me know whats happening if you no what I mean ;). we may have to do the trial and error with our pain management ;).

Hi Matt & Autumn...

I just had to pipe in here ... 1st my meds were adjusted last Thurs when I mentioned a "back-up" problem, ifyou know what I mean  so, doc changed my oxycontin 10mg 2x/day, vicodin ES every 6hrs/as needed and flexeril TO weaning me off oxy so now, I'm taking 1xday for 7 days, every other day for 7-10 days and Stopped Vicodin... he prescribe Ultracet every 6 hrs.... I hate it! I tried to tell him that I was trying to eat more protein (cheese, cheese and more cheese) had recently stopped that and added oat bran every morning and started eating an apple a day...ANYWAY - the ultracet does NOT help! It makes me jittery and I am still in pain. I called Friday - but he was gone. I call nurse tomorrow to see about changing it back (I have not had prob since the vicodin stopped! Is that wierd?) to at least oxy2x/day. Any BT that might be easier on 'that problem' - but, NOT Ultracet??? If you have any thoughts, I'd appreciate it. It sounds like you've tweaked your meds pretty well.

2nd... My user name is my dog, too! She's a Shiba Inu - red - The reason I posted was Matt, you mentioned yours is an Akita! Well, if you're familiar w/ Shibas - they look like miniature Akitas. I've always loved your breed, but at the time, our house was tiny.... and Akita's aren't!! :) So, we got Mokita for Mother's Day (as I was unable at the time to have children - infertile and no reason showed - laparoscopies (4) and took fertility drugs to no avail. Then, Father and my Gram died in same year '99 - I stopped trying becuz I was put on Serzone... lo and behold 2 months later, pregnat w/ Abbie, 8 1/2 mos later, pregant w/ Erin. Last Mother's Day, Dale had vasectomy!! I'm 40, he's 43...and has a daughter from prev.mrrg. - she's 19.

Anyhow... sorry so long... but, thought the coincidences were interesting. Autumn, sorry about your daughter not being able to carry child. And, Matt, my sympathies to you and your wife. Dogs (and cats) are really wonderful family members.

Karen

Hi Karen...So you are thinking it was the vicoden responsible for the back up? Actually it could have been both or either. The base med should have been left alone and if you can handle the discomfort try going off the Vic's for a day or so till the back up stops then back on them. This guy is totally messin with your meds now geez all ya needed to do was take fibre and a good stool softener thats all I did. Try fibercon or metimucil take it daily and the stool softener once at bedtime. In the meantime tell your doc you want your original meds back if they were working for your pain. Take care and good luck let us know what happens.
Autumn.

Hi Autumn.

As I said,I called too late on Fri, but my favorite nurse called back and told me to call her on Monday (even tho my doc will be in Cleveland that day - she's going to contact him)

So, I DO think that the vicodin AND oxy are both responsible - as is my diet at the time. The oat bran I think finally caught up with me - and apples really helped when I was preg the first time.

The funny thing is, I was hoping that he would titrate the oxy as I didn't feel I was getting enough relief...having to take the vicodin more than BT should be (I think... I'm not sure how often you should have to take BT??? :0 ) Then, I mention 'the problem' and "wham" he overreacted. I really do like this doctor, though. I have never been to a doctor who is this compassionate (well.. my infertility specialist in PA was). He really listens and addresses all problems. He even disagreed w/ findings on my discogram performed by a partner  I told him I thought I was oversedated... and he said by the looks of the tear and significant leak... he agrees with me. That lifted such a load off me, I can't even begin to tell you.

OK.. I will ask for original med back tomorrow. I really do feel much better... and if I can adjust on my own from now on... I'm keeping my big trap shut!!! ;)

Thanks!

Karen

Hi Mokita,

Te akitas are not small dogs. My grizz is 130lbs big huh.And yes I do know about your Shiba Inu they are bueatiful dogs. I bet that you just love yours to death. And condgrads on the children. And wow I'm 40yrs old as well. And wow what a coinicedence.

About your meds I would have to agree w/Atumn. Your Doc should not of folled w/the base med of oxy. Your back-up problem is not unusual as opiates cause the stomach motility to slow down. He should of just cut the vicadin first. Please call the doc and see if you can return to your reg dose of Oxy and then fool around w/the BT pain meds. I have never taken ultracet but I have heard about it causing the jitters. My brother told me about the jitters thing. Well Mokita(love the name by the way) good luck and keep us informed...

Matt

Thanks Matt!

BTW Mokita mean "quiet understanding" which fits her very well... not a barking dog at all.... and, as Autumn mentioned about her dog... Kita (for short) knows when I'm hurting and will come lie by me.

Will keep you posted about the meds... I am pretty sure he will agree to changing back. He was concerned that the backup would increase my back pain. ... true, but I certainly shouldn't be dropping meds!!

Take care!

The pm nurse gave me miralax for constipation. I also tried fleet enema's 3 times plus the suppositories and finally after about 5 days the volcano erupted... and what a geat feeling that was,
ask about this med..

Thanks Nix! If I run into this problem again, I will mention that! For some reason, I am fine now. I've stopped trying the protein thing... eating sensibly (mostly) and things seem to be moving along!! ;) What an embarrassing subject, but I knew there'd be plenty of you that experience the same thing!

Just hope my doc rearranges meds tomorrow. Tired of huring AND being jittery... yuck!

Hey Kita,

Thats a wonderful name and the meaning of is too. My dog is and Grizz because his coat is grizzled color like a grizz bear. And he kind of Lumbers around like a bear as well.
I'm glad that you agree with the assessment. I'm sure that you doc will agree as well. I know how embarassing this topic is but I've been dealing w/IBS for sometime. So to me its just apart of life. Thats exactly what I do is try to control it w/diet which seems to be working for the most part. So hang in their and please keep us posted.

Oh and by the way my grizz does'nt bark as well. I believe it apart of their make up. It's in the genes so to speak. It's truly a wonderful gift that dogs have that they can since our every emotion and pain. I'm glad that we have so much in common.

Hi Matt.

Grizz sounds wonderful! I love a dog that CAN bark, but doesn't unless necessary! ;) When Kita barks, it scares me half to death! Even tho she only weighs in at about 25#, she has a REAL dog's bark... not yippy!

I am happy w/ the way oat bran and apple-a-day has helped... not happy with Ultracet....can't wait til 8 oclock so I can call!

Take care.

Karen

Make home made bran muffins. You can buy the bran in health food stores. That will help flush you out too. Or go for the enema. I take a lid full of that miralax every day just to make sure i don't get clogged again. That was a bad feeling... Yep, I'm most of us has had that problem of being clogged. You can get really sick and end up in the hospital if you don't get unclogged...
Good Luck,
vicky

Hey Nix and Kita,

My grizz doe's bark but very rarely. If you think your Kita sounds bad, just think what my 130lb grizz sounds like. The walls shake LOL. Its a very loud and thunderous bark. I think the nabors are scared to death of him LOL. And he is just a big baby as well. He is just so loving and friendly. But since the niehbors have heard him. when I'm out walking him the run for cover LOL. Oh well dogs can give us such joy can't they...

Back to the bowel thing. I know that at the first sign of me getting a little clogged. I will ad a couple of metimucil tablets and then I'm fine. But for the most part just watching what I eat has made the biggest difference. So let us know what the doctors siad and if you get back on the regular dose of oxy...

Your friend,
Matt

Hey guys. Sorry to jump in but I had to get in on this name thing. Mine is after a horse I used to have. Still have lots but not this one. Also a bit of an assortment of dogs. Yukon-husky/wolf cross, Chance-poodle/maltese cross and just brought home to the family, of all things, a chihuahua. The day we picked her up my son figured we should call her a rottwawa because she is the exact same color as a rotti or a doberman pinscher. On the subject of dogs picking up on our feelings, some friends of ours had a HUGE Mirrama(sp?). I had just got out of the hospital after major surgery (temporary colostomy) and was unable to walk well. They had just got some new horses and me being a real horse nut I wanted to check them over. Chuckie seemed to sense that I was ill and every time I stood up to walk he was right beside me and he was tall enough that I was able to rest my arm along his back and that is how I got around. The first few times this happened we thought it was coincidental but we were there for about 6 hours so we soon figured out it was not. The next time we were over there I was pretty much recovered and he did not "offer himself for me to lean on". Sadly they lost him this spring but I will never forget what he did for me that day. Oh, great now I've gone and made myself cry!! Take care all and hope pain is less for all.

Hi all!!!

Talked to the nurse who called my doc and I'm back on oxy 2x/day :) but he wants me to stick w/ ultracet for now. I just do NOT get the same relief as vicodin ES, but, one thing at a time. At least I get to look forward to not being sore as soon as my eyes open in the morning! That was terrible. At least when I'm taking the oxy at night, I have 2 hours before I need BT... as it's been for last 4 days, I need BT as soon as I make it to the kitchen! yuck

The nurse is scheduling my consult w/ Top Dog of Dept @ Cleveland Clinic... will be calling me back shortly, so... won't be on for a little while!!

Take care all... pain free to all of you! Thanks for infor on the 'clogging' - so far, oat bran in am.. and apple help.. the bran muffins would be a nice afternoon snack!!! Will have to pick some up... maybe add some fresh blueberries!!! ;)

Hey Twisten, And hello Karen,

A chihuahua. Wow what a change. I think that they are cool little dogs. It is amazing how animals can just sense things. My dogs are always full of surprises. My grizz makes me cry all the time because of his caring and loving nature. Thanks for jumping in the conversation twisten I love to hear everyones experiences.
Karen I'm glad that your doc put you back on the oxy at night. I wish that you could get something better than the ultracet tho. I just have no experience w/it.
But like you said one thing at a time. The Dco may just want to wait and see if the ultracet doe's work who knows. But I'm glad that you have resolved the ole'clogged up thing. It can be very miserable. Well take care and be all means keep in touch.

Hey Everyone :) Wow Matt look what we started haha. Now I like this what a way to break the ice and make friends. Shows we can chat about other things besides our pain all the time :) Concrats Karen and Atta girl see you got to be agressive with these Docs and when we are involved in our own pain management we get the care we deserve cuz the Doc isnt always right he needs us to say what works for us. I wish I had a horse Twisten that must have been awesome. Have a wonderful day everyone and Matt talk to you soon.
Autumn.
