If I have been taking methedone off and on for maybe 3 weeks, is there any chance I won't have to be detoxed off this. I am afraid of it and have got off it for 3 days at a time with no problems, when I got constipated. Then I would start taking it again, but now I don't want to take it any more, as it gives me very little pain comfort...

Hey Lacy,
You probably won't go through any withdrawals as you haven't been on it that long. And since you have quit for 3 days and didn't have any problems I can't imagine that you would have any problems now. It may be that you need to be titrated up on the dose to get a better pain relief. I have been on it for quit some time now and it has worked wonders for me. Its one of those drugs that you don't get any euphoria from. At least not for me. It doe's however build up in your system the longer you stay on it. It could be that you need to be on it longer. As for the constipation you will have that problem on any of the long acting narcotics. And you need to treated that side effect very agressively with changing your diet as I have or with meds. I hope that this has help. Any how you do need to address this concern with your doctor as soon as possible. He will probably give you better advice or may even switch you to another med..

Thank you for the answer Matt. I went the whole day without the Meth but when I started to get my pressure again and the pushing , I took a 10mg valium. This helped for a few hours, but by tonight , I took 1/2 of my 10 mg meth. I do think I may need help with the doc .I wonder if it is unsafe to take valium if you are on meth?

Someone posted awhile back suggesting baby prune juice for the constipation. I, too, have this problem (severe constipation) with taking pain medication!! It was getting to the point where I thought I might have to stop taking my meds due to the horrible constipation.
I could not find the baby prune juice, but, I did find regular prune juice. I started mixing it with frozen 100% welch's rasberry juice (cant stand the taste of prune juice) and I cant believe the change this has made!!
The best prune juice to get is the prune juice with pulp. I mix the prune juice with the welch's (1/4 welch's and 3/4 prune)and have about 12 oz. morning and 12 oz. afternoon and there is an incredible difference. I am no longer having to take any laxitives. Thanks to whoever suggested prune juice...

I don't think that taking valium with the methadone will hurt at all. I was on klonopin for awhile with the methadone and I was affected negativly at all. Valium and klonapin are both from the same class of drugs known as benzodiazapins. Anyhow have you spoke to your doc yet if so keep us informed ok! Take care ...

I take 10 mg of Meth twice a day. I didn't realize that this was helping me a little until I got off it because of constipation.
I never did have withdrawls, but after the 3rd day of not taking it, I started burning and stinging real bad again. Last night , after 3 days, I had to give in and take the 10 mg, then one again this am. It only takes the edge off the raw soreness I get under my left breast and left upper back where I had the Laminectomy.
I just get so tired of hurting and my doc just thinks I imagine some of this. I CERTAINLY DO NOT. I HURT ALL THE TIME,,PILLS OR NO PILLS. I asked him to refer me to a pain specialist and he says he doesn't think I need one, as if he pays my insurance...lol

In most cases,in order for Methadone to be truly effective,you really need to take it 3-4 times a day at that dose,if you are still hurting.Tell your doc to please help you with this and if he will not,to at least send you where they will help you.As for the constipation,you can take senna or Correctol or even a tbsp. of Mineral Oil(it,s not THAT bad)and that should do the trick!That way you don,t have to discontinue your med regimen.Good-Luck!
