I've tried taking neurontin on and off for a few years and always ended up witha anxiety attacks that Dr said couldn't happen. So I would take it for awhile then stop then take it then stop and each time it would happen. Finally dr agreed I had an unusual side effect. I have alot of nerve damage and tried neruontin, topomax and now they want me to try zonegran. Those drugs are not approved for use outside what they were made for but the pharmacuetical Co spent a great deal of time and money to push this on Dr who we all know have little knowledge of drugs in the first place. This ticks me off as again it shows me that the Pharmacuetical Co who is suppose to make drugs to help us is really in it for lining their pockets and they do this time and time again. When are Drs going to stop being a puppet for these sales rep and start doing their own research on a drug??? This guy said he could push anything on these Drs and they would take his word for it(afterall he worked for the Warner-Lambert Co and he would know)I'm showing this document to my Dr and let's see what he has to say for himself!

I saw a neurologist a couple of years ago and he prescribed neurontin or me. I have a pill book at home and looked it up. I remember it saying that no one really knows how the drug works...blah blah blah...but then all of sudden it says "people have been known to die while taking this drug"

That was enough for me. I just quit taking it, period.
I agree, that doctors should know much more about what they are prescribing their patients. I mean my neruologist certainly didn't mention this strange side effect that people have been known to die while taking it!

HI,

Yes, I saw the Dateline piece. I was so worried about what they were going to say, because I just stared taking in 2 weeks ago. It was given to me by my Neurologist for my knee pain. I have had wonderful results from taking this drug. In the Dateline piece it later went on to say that the FDA {HAS} recently approved Neurotin for Periferal nerve pain, and pain.

This is a fabulous drug for me. It has made me much more functional. I only have to take the OXY in the morning and the rest of the day only take Neurotin for my pain. So, it has cut down my usage of OXy for my pain. Don't you think that it is better to take this than a narcotic? Well, the narcotic pain relievers have their place, for example I need them to be able to get my decreped joints to move so that I can do all my chores in the am. then I was pretty much bedridden in the afternoons and evenings, but when I took the narcotic in the p.m it made me not sleep well.

Anyone in pain should at least give it a try. I am so glad that I did. However it does have some side effects. I am scared to drive because it makes the mind and body feeel kind of disconnected in my opinion, and it makes you slow or sleepy. These are warnings that they put on the bottle at the phamacy.
I also have experienced a little bit of confusion at times, hopefully this will pass the longer that I am on it. Anyway these seem like a small price to pay considering my knee pain felt like I was being burned with scalding water!!!!

I would really recommend this to anyone who is suffering like I was.

I wish I could feel that confident about it, when I took it, my nerve pain in my hands and feets were still there, and with my nerve disease pretty much nothing has given me adequate relief.
