You aren't kidding. I would make someone KILL me before laying a hand on my children let alone "sell" them....you are right how sick. And what it once again does to those of us in pain...I would NEVER dream of selling my meds...I NEED them!!!!It sets us all back....but unfortunately we have no control over situations like this...Love to all...Surg Disaster

Hello all! When I read that press release, I just hit the roof too, Coffeeman! It made me so mad! This kind of stuff causes true CP patients more problems and is a personal affront to our character and integrity because others assume that since we are on oxy, we must be drug addicts looking for a high - so far from the truth!
I've had problems many times with trying to get my oxy rx filled at pharmacies. So many around here don't keep it in stock anymore because of robberies and the bad press it generates. I've had to go to several different Walgreens just to find one that had the medicine to fill my rx! And this is just gonna add to the problem. I'm really afraid that the FDA may withdraw the medicine due to all of the bad rap and either just allow it for say, cancer patients, or ban it altogether. That's the last thing that CP patients need!
Oh, I'm so infuriated by this! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/blob_fire.gif Anyway, I didn't mean to rant, but I appreciate the opportunity to vent a little. Much Love, Lindao1

Hi everyone.
The good news here is that the company who makes oxycontin, Purdue, is on the brink of selling an Oxycontin that will not work if broken down (through chewing, crushing, lighting up, etc). If I remember correctly, they are waiting for FDA approval and then pharmacies will be required to phase out all the rest of their normal oxycontin and replace it with this safer kind. This was part of an argreement the company had with the Justice Dept., (along with removing the 160mg oxys off the market) to make the drug less desirable to addicts and pharmacy-thiefs.
Hopefully this will change the way pharmacists act towards those who need this drug, and maybe more pharmacies will be willing to keep it in stock.
Has anyone else heard of this? I can't remember where I read this article online.
Have a great day!

Yes Hiking Fan I read that somewhere as well that it was being "thought" of. I wish they would just do it and stop dragging thier heels. Do it for EVERY "contin" medication. Here in Canada we have CodieneContin (Long acting Codiene) Oxycontin (Long acting oxycodone) MS Contin (Long acting Morphine) Hydromorphone Contin (long acting Dilaudid) I think ALL these should be tamper proof dont you all?? Saves us Cpers the hassle of justifying needing a longer acting drug without being looked upon as a potential abuser. I also wondered about them putting that Naxolone or whatever its called in a painkiller you know the stuff that wont let ya get high? They use it in detox for narc addiction so why not put it in every pill? The painkiller part still does its job it just prevents abuse somehow. Ahhhh if it was only that easy huh? Well thats my 2 cents my friends :) wishing you all a pain free night.

I just watched a show a couple of days ago on MTV called 'True Life' Hooked on OxyContin. It showed all the junkies that were shooting the drug up with a syringe to get high. It told about a group of kids around 18 years old that did OCs all the time to get high and they had already lost 2 of their friends because one girl had done 5-OC 80mg at one time and then their other friend had popped 5 Xanax along with drinking alcohol and him and his buddy split 1-OC 40mg and one of them died because of the lethal mixture.
They also told about a guy that got hooked on Oxy from an injury and he had lost everyhting he owned and then hired a lawyer to file a class action lawsuite on Purdue for manufacturing a drug that was so addictive.
I can honestly say that I have never taken an Oxy, but I hope that if the day comes where I need something stronger for my pain, that OxyContin will still be an option.
If Oxy is "swallowed" like prescribed and not snorted or shot up with a needle, the problem would not be nowhere as bad as it is.
The day will come where all of us pain sufferers will have to stand up and do something about this.

I agree Dragracer I have been on Oxycontin in the past and it worked like a charm but the price was wayyy too steep for me and it wasnt covered on my plan. I was on the 20mg twice a day. Its way too easy to be abused and there are actually sites on the net that teach addicts how to bypass the time release feature. The manufactoring company needs to put a rush on this supposed tamper proof Oxy they are making because if they dont I bet Oxy's will be hauled of the market before long and to alot of people at this site and all over the world this drug is a lifesaver. Anyway I hope you are doing well and as pain free as possible,,Have a nice day :)

The woman trying to sell her baby doesn't infuriate me as much as people who don't think.
Lets think about this at a different angle. If people used their heads we would have a lot less to worry about. Some well applied brain power would reason that if Oxy is such a widely used medication, and if the press seems to think that its so bad, then if it is indeed so insideous then why aren't there more people selling babies to get it? I mean you have to figure that if X amount of people take it and the drug was really that much of a problem then we would see a whole lot more of the baby selling going on, and the press wouldn't over any baby being sold for prescription drugs, thats just too good a story.
I just wish the masses used their heads more.
