Hi! I am new here. I have had chronic pain in my left shoulder and front and side of my neck for 2 yrs following an injury. Was told MRI showed swelling of some of my discs, and I think there is some nerve and/or muscle or fascia(sp?) damage as well. I have been on Neurontin for 5 months and Ultram was added 3 mos ago. The Neurontin helped some, and now with the Ultram I feel like I have my life back!!!
I was very sick for the 1st 2 weeks on the Ultram, but now just mild, occasional nausea. I have heard it can be addictive, but what does that mean? Physical dependence? Potential for abuse? I know I am phy. dependant, I get withdrawals if I don’t take them for 24 hrs. I take no more than 6 tabs/day (50mg) and have 2 months left on my Rx. I am finally able to live w/ the pain and I’m afraid they are going to take that away from me! I have heard of some people being on it for a few years, what is the word on long term use? Thanks for the help, God bless you all.

Also my heart goes out to you who are withdrawing, done it off of vicodin a couple times and I know how it can be! Just know it won't last forever it will get better and better as you hang in there. OTC sleep meds, honey, lots of liquids and orgasms (don't laugh!) help too.

Hi I'm sorry to read you are in cronic pain also, so am I since 96, no doc would help me til a friend grabed me by the hand and pushed me into getting help. She and my new doc saved my live. I was ready to run infront of a truck. No joke.
About your pain meds. Talk to your doc ( the one who prescribed the meds) about it tell her the truth about your pain, she will listen and not take your meds away. You might need to go to a pain managment doc. Never knew they existed. I was home for 4 years suffering through cp and trying every gimmick that was out there, from ointment to magnets. Dieing each day in pain not wanting to live and no $$, no insurance. Just go back to your doc and she will explain it all to you about the meds and what your options are.
Good luck

------------------
Cronic pain from tendonitous in right elbow 1996, left elbow 1998, shoulder pain within that time, neck pain the hole time. Docs would not give pain meds because of cronic pain and would not help. Could not take tha pain anymore 2003. Until I went to welfare and ran up $$ for med covarage.

Have a good day.

i think the risk for addiction (the phychological) in ultram or ultracet is for those with a history of opiate "addiction", not physical dependance. i am a recovering addict for many years & have had no problems with ultracet. i was on them for 5 months, then off for a few weeks (no withdrawals)and back on for a few months again- still no problems. i hope this helps.
