Does anyone find that they lose their appetite while on Duragesic fentanyl patches?

I am not as hungry when I put my patch on.

Hi,

I use Duragesic 50 mcg (1 patch every 72 hours).

Nausea and vomiting are the main side effects I get from this medication. Are you nauseous and/or do you vomit? This could be causing you a loss of appetite. When I was nauseous and/or vomited, I lost my appetite.

If nausea and/or vomiting are responsible for your loss of appetite, there are a lot of medications to treat nausea and vomiting. One medication that I found especially helpful is Marinol. Not only this medication controls the nausea and vomiting, it also gives me appetite. I also use Reglan, Compazine, Phenergan, and Antivert as anti-nauseant/anti-emetics; they help me indirectly with my appetite problems.

You might want to talk with your doctor so he/she can help you, that is, try to find out whether Duragesic is the cause for your appetite problems and prescribe appropriate medications for you.

You might also want to read the package insert that is included in each box of Duragesic. This package insert lists the potential side effects of Duragesic; check and see if appetite problems are included.

You might want to contact Janssen, the manufacturer of Duragesic. They are quite helpful with questions and certainly know more than doctors about Duragesic because they are its manufacturer.

Are you taking any other medications that could be responsible for your appetite problems?

If you do not have nausea and vomiting, Duragesic could still cause appetite problems by affecting your stomach. This also happens to me.

I hope this helps.
