Hi everyone,
I put up another similar post - but only received two responses - probably because I should have used a different subject heading to draw attention to this problem I am having with the side effects of my medication. I am on straight oxycodone without Tylenol - in the form of Roxicodone - 8 tablets of 15mg per day. Anyway, among other more common side effects - I have noticed that I have a very subtle, slight ringing in my ears that is only noticeable at night when it is very quiet and there are no other noises to block it. It never bothers me in the day since I cannot tell with all the other daily noises going on that block it out. But at night, I have to turn on a fan to distract me from the ringing. Like I said though, it is very slight, and not painful or horribly annoying (Thank God!!). But I am wondering if any of you have noticed this side effect from your narcotic pain medication?? I also noticed that my ears feel clogged - like I want to yawn to make them pop. The best way to describe it is the feeling you get when you are in an airplane and the altitude changes so quickly that your ears get clogged - and you need to yawn to make them pop to restore the equilibrium. Of course, with this medication - I yawn - but it does nothing to help, and my ears just remain feeling clogged. It is especially noticeable right after I take a dose and the medication is peaking. Do any of you have the ringing and the clogged ear feeling? I didn't know if I should be worried or not - and I have asked my doctor and pharmacist and they didn't seem worried. But still..... this is my hearing we are talking about here! Any responses will be so appreciated. Thanks so much!

Hi Lisa I haven't seen my Dr. yet nor have I forgotten. It's driving me crazy. To tell you the truth I never thought it to be a med reaction before you brought it up. If the buzzing in the ears is at all inversly equated to brain power I'll need directions on how to put on a pair of slippers.Take care, Lake

Hi Fire,

I take Vicodin and I have noticed the same thing. I believe that I read somewhere that it can be a side effect of narcotic pain meds.

After i had my last surgery when I was on pretty high doeses is when I noticed it the most.

You should hear how loud it gets on the Duragesic patch or morphineand oxycontin. I do not have it on methadone which is the best pain killer I have ever had and it's really cheap too. I don't know what else to tell you other than opiates cause tinnitus ( ringing in ears) Good Luck and God Bless

Hey all,
Well, I am at least glad to know that I am not the only one with ringing in the ears and that it wasn't just my imagination that it began when I started on higher doses of oxycodone. The paybacks for a little bit of pain relief!! Thanks for the responses so far. It makes me feel better :-)
