Hi,

I have been using Duragesic since September 14, 2002, to control my severe chronic pain caused by RSD, which I have in the left knee/leg.

I have had two arthroscopic knee surgeries on my left knee. After the first surgery, my RSD flared up because
I was only on Vicodin, which is ineffective for me. After the second surgery, my RSD did not flare up because I was on Duragesic for severe chronic pain AND on Oxycontin for postoperative pain.

What do you think about taking BOTH Duragesic AND Oxycontin? I stopped using Oxycontin after my postoperative pain went away but I am still using Duragesic.

Thanks.

I also was on both duragesic 150mcg and 100 mg of oxycontin after surgery, after about 3 months I ened up back in hospital because of cronic osteomyelitis in spine and new PM Doc switched me over to 160 mg of methadone with 2 4mg diluadid every 6 hrs for BT pain, I adapted well to switch, methadone is better pain killer for me than fentyl, oxycontin or any othert opiate they ever tryed on me, I am now trying to lower tolerence so down to 90 mg of methadone per day and percoset 10 for BT wich is tearing up my stomach with all the apap. I hated the patch because of no relief the third day . Ask your doc about methadone for pain relief and you will be amazed Good luck and GOD bless

Hey Lost soul,

Yeah I'm a switcher as well. My doc started me out on oxycontin. Then switched me to methadone w/oxyIR as one BT med or Dilaudid *mgs as the other. Methadone being that it attachs to mutiple recptors unlike like fentyl attachs mostly to the mu site only. Methadone works better for any kind of nerve pain CP because of it having mutiple sited available to it. At least that is what I have heard. Its more potent in that regard than fentyln. There fore it has other side effects associated with it as well. Methadone is diffenately not for everyone.. OPh well take care....

I take Oxycontin and use Actiq, which is fentnyl (same med as Duragesic but differnt form - lollipops). The comb works great because each med covers totally differnt pain receptors, so you get much better overall pain coverage.

I never was able to give Meth a good try even tho I wanted to. My doc, who I LOVE for the most part, was only willing to start me out at 10 mgs a day...and titrate me once a month, 10 mgs at a time. And with the pain I had at the time and still do have, I couldnt handle the slow titration!!!
I would really like to try it again in the future. At the low dose I was on I couldnt feel any pain relief at all.
