That's ridiculous.. Are you seeing a PM doc? Can you change doctors?? I'm really sorry you aren't receiving help with your pain. I know how frustrating that can be... I just recently got into a PM clinic. It took me quite some time though, and my dx isn't as bad as yours.

Thanks for your concern........I am so tired of the fight. I DO NOT want strong meds. Only mild, maybe Darvocet or somthing. I can hardly stand it anymore. He won't refer me to a PM DR. says I don't need it. Is is ok to order darvocet on line?

I don't know about that. I've never gotten any meds online, but I'm not sure about the laws and whatnot regarding all that stuff. I know the gov is trying to crack down on it though, if i remember correctly. But Darvocet I don't think is a very strong pain med, so I don't know if it's a problem getting it off the net.

All I can say is be VERY careful, because some of those websites will take your money and never send your order, and others may send you placebos that don't have anything in them.

Have you tried looking for a new regular doc?? You pain should be taken seriously, no matter what. Have you tried Ultracet (Tramadol or Ultram?)?? If you don't need something strong, maybe one of these drugs would work for you... If my pain hadn't been so bad, this drug might've made a difference for me, but it didn't due to the severe pain.

You should put your foot down to your doc. Let him know you are in pain, and you need something to help with it. If he doesn't want to help you, tell him that you want a second opinion from a pain specialist, since he's refusing to help you. Have you tried a pain journal? When I began one, I finally got my point across to my doctor that I was serious about my pain. I wrote every couple of hours, documenting what level my pain was at on the pain scale, and what in particular was bothering me... I also would write how well I slept due to the pain, and how I reacted to normal everyday activities, such as running errandss, and whatnot... Such as, "Had to go to the mall and find a new pair of shoes. Was only there for an hour, but got home and pain was up 2 more points to an 8 from the 6 I was at before I left." Or "Woke up in 7 pain about 4 times during the night. Finally got back to sleep after lying there in pain for an hour." Or "Watching TV, haven't done anything today, Pain at an 8 anyways." Just stuff like that. I also document when I take my meds and then will write a couple hours later to document how well the meds helped my pain if at all.

Sweety, you need to take action. If your doctor doesn't take you seriously, you need to find one that will. Tell your doctor that you can't accept that you just have to live with the pain. It's not fair. Ask your doctor if you were a cancer patient, if he'd treat you the same, if the cancer patient had the same pain levels. I felt my doctor was discriminating against me for my age. I brought it up to him, and he changed his tune pretty quick. He also referred me to pain management to get a second opinion.

None of us deserve to suffer like you are. Please look for a caring doc that will help you with your pain. Let your doctor how your quality of life is suffering. Don't ask for meds specifically, but ask to make the pain tolerable.. Don't let him think he's doing you a favor, because he's not. His job is to treat patients, not the ones he chooses to treat. He wouldn't hold back a diabetic patient from receiving the insulin meds he needs to make the diabetes tolerable. And don't let him ever tell you that pain doesn't kill, because it does.

If you ever need to talk, I'm here, hun. Please find a better doc if yours is unwilling to help.

You have a legitimate diagnosis that indeed involves pain. He should have enough heart to believe you need something to make your life liveable!

I'm here for you sweetheart...

Much http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/heart.gif to you, and my best wishes in your search for a caring doctor that will give you the meds you need...

You have to be strong and sincere. Tell them that what they are giving you does not help. Tell them that if they are hesitant to prescribe anything stronger for whatever reason, to please refer you to someone who will treat you more aggresively.

Please tell them how this is affecting your quality of life. You have to make sure you convey that this isn't just some little ache or pain...it is serious. I have DDD, along with some other stuff, and it started out work-related. So the terrible workers comp doctors also started me on skalxin (SP?) and I remember thinking....what the heck is this helping? It was terrible. You have the right to a second opinion. The next doctor I saw was able to put me on Motrin, Norco (hydrocodone/APAP), and zanaflex which made all the difference in the world.

Please continue to fight for what will help you. Give the medicine they prescribe a chance, but do not suffer too long. Its not fair to you.

Please let us know what we can do for support! I've been where you are and I remember how much it made me crazy. They trivalize the pain, and start with ridiculous meds that don't take the edge off.

Good luck, and keep in touch, okay?

Monkey,

Hang in there. But like the other posters. Do what ever it takes to control your pain. You do serve it it. I can't suggest anything that hasn't been suggested here so far. All I have to say is be safe first thing just do what ever it takes to relieve this pain.. You are in control. Do you understand. Just take control of this pain You are in charge of the pain you live with dailey just do what ever it takes. Take good care....

You know...it really makes me angry to hear something like this. Doctors are here to help, not hurt. But unfortunately, in this day and age, most think you are just out to get high. I've been treated like I am an addict more times then I care to count because of my chronic pain. They just don't get it or if they do get it, they are afraid to write anything anyways.

If your doc is not listening, then you need to find a new doc. Or tell him that what he's given you (which I've been on and it sucks) is not working and if he can't write you something else then refer you to someone who can. PM aren't just there to write scripts for the strongest drugs on the market. They are there to find the right RX for you, whatever it or the dosage may be.

I'm sorry to vent, but I think we've all been there and it's ridiculous. We're not drug addicts, we're in pain and either the doctors need to be better informed on how to treat chronic pain or at least have the decency to refer you to someone who does know how. I think it's awful that you have to purchase pain meds online just to get relief when it should be readily available for you through your doctor.

I wish you the best of luck in whatever happens. I hope that I've given you a little push to stand up to your doctor and make them help you....that's what they are there for.

God Bless

Hi I've read everyone's reply and you got some great advice. Did you have MRIs,CatScans, etc? If so ask for a copy along with your Dr.s diagnosis and try to find a pain Dr. or will this mess up your insurance? I get soooo mad when a fellow CPer has to suffer like you . Is there an ER near you? I hope you'll never need to go but you shouldn't have to suffer either. Lake

monkeywomen,
i so know where you are coming from. I had a skateboard accident and have been in pain since june. Very bad today and doc says to take 2 extra strength tylenol with 5-8 hundred mgs. of advil.
Have to take it with pepcid so my stomach doesn't spllit open. It sucks.
I don't know about online stuff - seems like you end up paying worse than street prices. I am waiting for my doc to call. If he won't help than i will be forced to go to the streets for relief. Something i haven't done in 23 yrs.
It makes me so angry that i have been brought to this horrible decision for just a bit of relief. But there it is. NO one really cares.

I hope you find something to help.
