I just started my treatment plan a week ago now. I have noticed a bit of a break through pain, and when I do have it, the feeling of pain is twice as much as I remember it. Is this because now I have been living pain free for a week and am not "use to it" Or is it something else, and is this common?

Thanks everyone,
Hope all is feeling pain free today!

Hey Louise, It sounds more like a honeymoon perriod of finally having your pain management. The only way to remain in 0 pain is to increase ypour base dose every week andsthat how we see folks go from 40-80 mgsof a med to 8-00 mgs per day. YOu have to have a realistic gaol as far as pain managem,nt. Increased funtion, decreased pain and manageble side effects. A honeymoon is not abnormal. It what you do ovcer the nxt few mnonths that makes a difference.

You didn't mention dose or med but saying going from 0 pain ceratianly stands alon on most CP forums.

BT pain is normal to have if you have exaperated an injury or have progression of a degenerative disease. But to expect 24/7 0 pain isn't realistic.

Hopefully you will find that balance of proper pain relief, increased function and activity that only can be achieved throug the use of medication.

Good uck and yes BT pain is normal bnut most literature suggest BT pain more than twice a day, the base dose should be considered for an increase.

Most docs expect you to level out and except a certain amount of discomfort to justify the use of potent opiates. I hope you continue to improve through the use of proper medication and take advantage of the increased function the meds provide.
Take care, Shore
