I'm trying this new board. It looks like a good thing!
I had bi-lateral STN-DBS in May 1999. It has restored my life in many ways. I have had many benefits as well as a few problems. Today I dealt with one of the problems and would like to let others know that it was a cinch. One of my stimulators was replaced today; they discovered it had filled with "gra-doo". This required out-patient surgery, similar to what pace-maker replacement is like. I had a similar problem with my other stimulator in March and had it replaced as well. It seems to get easier every time. The next thing they need to do is invent zipper-skin; BiCentennial Man-style. If anyone is considering this surgery, feel free to Email me!

Carole,
Glad to hear from you and to see you on the new board. I was beginning to wonder if anybody was going to come over.

Carole, I see you are from Leavenworth, I have been there alot when I lived in Tulsa and worked for Safety Kleen in the mid 80's.

Thanks for the messages! This new format will take some getting used to, but I guess the more we use it, the easier it will get. Pete, I just know you will do so much better when you get some DBS help!! It is a dramatic change for the better. I keep my stims turned on all the time; sometimes they get turned off by store alarm detectors, or what not (no consistency with me - some stores I can go in and have no problem for 10 visits. The next visit, I get turned off. I know because my right foot starts "clog dancing" - as in the Ozarks??) I take out the magnet and boom, it's gone. I takes a few minutes fpr "the boom" to clear and my brain to come back to earth. I now know I should be sitting and still for a few minutes. Not too long ago, my foot starting "dancing" shortly after leaving a store. I was driving and took care of myself while still driving. Looking back, that wasn't too smart!! Nothing bad happened, but then I think I have a lot of spiritual forces surrounding me, protecting me from my own stupid decisons!! I received a brand new Activa newsletter from Medtronic just yesterday. I will post the websites they included in a new post. Look for it on this board!
Hang in there, Pete. Gray skies are going to clear up soon!! Darrell, I think Leavenworth is the same as when you were here in the 80s; small town resistant to change!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif Always neat to hear from people who know where you're from!

Hi Carole,
You can't(yes, you can, but many people would not) imgine how desperately i needed to see the "encouragement"post you sent out yesterday. It revitalized my physical and mental outlook.
I guess if i could just get from my dr a little more specific time of when he will be able to do the surgery, i would feel a little better.

Again, i pray that all of the miraculous things that evoloved from your surgery will continue for you
take care---pete
