1. With regards the sense of smell. I have now , too many times , found myself in the situation , where people seem to be suffocating from the smell of something , and I can't for the life of me , see what all the fuss is about. Does anyone out there have any information on smell and Parkinsons please with any examples of everyday things you can and cannot individually smell. With me I seem to not be able to smell some strong things! But I can smell other strong things as well as light odour things I think! It just doesn't add up and is very strange.

2. secondly , when tired , i.e. when my sleep pattern is disturbed I get these jolts of my head increasingly.. i get them when sitting down , plus I'm convinced that when I am awake and experience this head jolt my body actually wants to go to sleep , and if i do or don't then either way my body somehow later acts as if it has gone to sleep and is refreshed which throws a normal and ideal sleep pattern out the window! also experience breathing difficulty during these periods when fighting through my body wanting to sleep accompanied by head jolts as it might not be all that convenient to sleep at that time...
similar experience anybody?

In regards to the sense of smell, I experience the same thing. Other people will be talking about the smell of something, good or bad and I'm wondnering what they are talking about. Then other times it seems as if it's all normal. PD is very strange.

The loss of the sense of smell is a common symptom of PD and it has been said that having this symptom is a good clue in diagnosing PD. The odor has to be very strong or I won't smell anything. Some time it could be an advantage and some times it will not. Bruce

I thought I had better add my two cents worth. When I was in the back bedroom sick a few weeks ago I fell asleep.Bill usually never leaves me.I woke up and he was gone .He was in the kitchen,I could smell gas.He had tried to make me tea, I always have a tea kettle on the stove, there was a cup of warm water next to the stove no tea.Thank God he had turned off the stove.I cannot sleep when he is awake. But old habits never go.We always have tea in the afternoon after his nap.I could smell the gas but he couldn't. My senses of smell is ditto ditto ditto. (Good reason to bathe daily - you may or may not be offensive!!) There are times when my dh will say, "You can't smell that?" and I'll sniff and sniff and shake my head no. Other times, I can smell little differences. We have a carbon monoxide warning device, but I never thought about natural gas; that could spell a disaster!
