My dad is in what dr at the hospital he is in has described to us final stages. He has had pd for 13 yrs
and is now unable to feed himself, suffering severe dimensia, and head almost constantly down in frozen state. Three weeks ago when we admitted him to hospital for freezing/falling, he was walking and having only periods of dimensia. Now he can hardly walk, when he can at all, and my mom is certain we can bring him home and in that familiar setting, he will regain his state of three weeks ago. Has anyone encountered similar situation? Looking for something to feel positive about. Not getting it from drs. Tks

Toby,

When you get your dad home take him to a movement Disorder specialist.I hate it when they say last stage of the PD,they know nothing. My husband has been everything you say about your Dad.He's had PD over 27yrs and is 79 yrs old.7 yrs ago he was like your Dad nothing was working. With the help of good medical advice change of meds except increased the Sinemet CR and dropped all others. He is very disaabled has dementia.I have a nurse now three times per week, who he loves,I do to.

Dont give up,

Googy

Tobee,
I second Googy's advice above. You must find a really good Movement Disorders Specialist and have him see your Dad. Also, make sure the hospital staff have run tests to check for a urinary tract infection. These infections can really take a toll in someone with PD and can make the symptoms a lot worse. If necessary, have him transferred to a major medical center where they will have good doctors and hopefully one who specialises in PD to have a look at him.

Hope this helps.

I have been a little slow reading mesagees, becausee thee humidity and heat has been slowing me down.

I have worked in hospitals most of my life and been a patient a couple of times. This may sound cynical, but their is a good possibiliy that he didn't receive the correct drugs at the right times. All of his change in symptoms could be reelated to the dosege schedule.

I have had pd for more than 10 years and a long way from being in the "last" staages.
