Googy,
I don't know if you tried this, but if you search on GOOGLE you can find a lot of info on celexa. There seems to be a link to some message board that discusses side effects.

I was asked to participate in a celexa study at Robert Wood Johnson, but declined. They feel it may be helpful in dealing with PD sleep disorder.

I also work with a Pharmacist. He's a good friend and very knowledgable about pharmaceuticals. I'll ask him tomorrow.

Googy, I hope that the Celexa helps and that you're feeling better soon. You've been through so much with your husband's illness. Seems like it's harder to see
a loved one with this disease, than to actually have it yourself... Anyway, take care. Holly

hi Googy,
I have been on 40 mgs. of celexa for 2.5 yrs. It has really helped my depression, although it takes a few weeks to reach full effct. I have tried other antidepressents that had worse side effects and weren't as effective. Unfortunately, although celexa is not considered addictive, you MUST NOT STOP TAKING IT WITHOUT BEING WEANED OFF VERY SLOWLY. If you just decide to stop it the consequences are very severe depression, tingling in body, gritting teeth and other troublesome effects. I would recommend that you take it if you are depressed but please please remember to always have some on hand. (a friend of mine forgets to get her refills and goes balisstic after about 18 hrs. of non-medication. I hope I am not scaring you, celexa gave me back my life. I just want to stress the importance of making sure you are weaned off them slowly when the time comes. Hope this helps. (my dad has pd so i know what one goes through when a loved one is a pd patient).

Googy, here is some more information about Celexa. It is in the SSRIs class of antidepressants which incudes Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil and Luvox. They are now the first line treatment of major depression. Because these drugs act specifically on serotonin, they have fewer side effects than the older antidepressants. Patients taking SSRIs report not only relief of depressive symptoms, but also a higher level of efficiency, more energy, and better relationships with other people.

SSRIs may take up to 12 weeks to be effective in elderly people.
