Hi,
First I'd like to say thanks to all of your replys when I posted before. It was very helpful and much appreciated.
My son got in on a cancelled appointment so we went last week. They did some testing and after reviewing all of my forms, his teacher's forms, and the school work I had brought in, it seems he has a form of dyslexia that is bringing about ADD behavior. BUT he still could have ADD, we just don't know for sure yet. He is going back for two two-hour sessions of testing to determine for sure. Since my son's school won't get him tested because THEY SAY they are behind and he's on the waiting list, my husband and I feel it's in our son's best interest to test him outside of school with a professional psychologist who will do even more than the school testing, anyway. Then, by law, the school has to put an IEP in place within 30 days of this outside evaluation. This group of doctor's has assigned my son an advocate also.
But in these first tests he's already taken, it looks like there is a reading disorder that is stemming from a form of dyslexia. My son cannot decode words, among other things they found out. The doctor said ADD behavior can manifest itself or come out when a child is frustrated from any sort of disability, but they are not yet excluding ADD. He did not put him on medication at this time, until his other testing is done next week and the following week. We were very happy with this group of doctors. They really knew their stuff and really seemed to care about our son's well-being.
Does anybody here have Dyslexia with ADD? Or know what challenges that might bring?
Thanks so much
Kelly
