it's been a while since I posted, but I wanted to fill you in on what has happened so far. I will probably have the DBS surgery in late spring or early summer. They have approved the surgery at U Mass Medical Center here in Worcester. Starting in January. My movement disorder specialist is calling in a surgeon from Mass General to do the surgery. My case is so unique that they want to perform other surgeries before they attempt mine. I have to go for a barium swallow and physic evaluation. Hopefully it will work out well. They say it won't stop Parkinsons but it will cut back on the number of meds that I will have to take. I want quality of life not quanity of life. Oh by the way It won't cost me anything because the hospital has got the funding for the surgery. Keep me in your prayers and hope that all turns out well.

Hi Lizsgrammy,
I've had the DBS/STN and it has improved my Parkinson's immensely. I don't know why they say it won't improve it, but that it will cut down on the meds you take. But if it only does that, it would be worth it. If you have any questions you'd like to ask, fire away.
