Good morning. First I want to thank Ruth for directing me here THANKS Ruth!

My name is Marcie and I am 37 years old. I was diagnosed with PD on 11/2/01 after 2 years of symptoms and numerous doctors.

I currently take 3mg 3x day of Requip. It has really kicked in the last few days. I am walking much better and am actually typing with my right hand-major improvement there! Now if I could only sleep better...

I look forward to getting to know all of you and learn more about PD.

Have a great holiday!

Marcie

Hello Marcie,

Your story sounds similar to mine. I am 37 and I was diagnosed in November 01 also. I am currently just starting on requip but it is too early too tell the results.

Welcome to the board.

Todd

Hi Marcie,

I'm glad you found this board and I'm sure you will learn a lot here. I think it's 100% better than the other one, which isn't going to be there anyway.

Marcie,
Hi!.... I was diagnosed a few years ago at 42. It seems these days there are more and more younger people being diagnosed with PD.

It may take a litle trial and error with the meds before you find the right combination, but eventually you will. They can be a big help. I've been on the same meds for about a year now with pretty consistent daily relief. Nights......Well that's another matter.
I've been working on the insomnia thing for awhile now. If you find something let me know. I'll do likewise.

GOOD LUCK....and if you start feeling a little overwhelmed by all the PD info that friends & family are giving you, just put it aside and do something else. You can even come here and vent....there's good people here.

Todd,
Sorry.....didn't mean to overlook you. HI!
Ditto on the meds advice to Marcie.
To both you guys....there's a lot of good research going on right now both with stem cells & in other areas. Stay tuned I'll be back with info. I just heard about.

Welcome, Marcie. I was diagnosed in '98 at age 52 or so, with symptoms the previous 2-3 years. If you aren't aware of the Young Parkinson's group of APDA, check it out -- good information. Also, the APDA newsletter, latest issue, back page, had 2 excellent publications to send for, 1 free with 800 number, 1 minimal cost, 80 pages of useful tips. Stay with us, everyone has such good info, and this is an excellent support group. Lory

Thank you to everyon for the wonderful welcomes! I feel like I have found the right place for the support I need.

I have received lots of info from the Young Parkinsons Information and Referral Center: http://members.aol.com/apdaypd/young/index.html

They have an awesome booklet (free!) titled "My Mommy Has PD...But It's OK!" that was so useful in explainging this to my boys (ages 5 1/2, 7, & 7).

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know everyone and share whatever I can about my experiences.

Happy Holidays!

Marcie

Welcome Marcie and Todd, their are other pd forums and they may post a lot, but I keep coming back here We are all frends here and seem to have discussions here in a civil manner with respect for each others point of view that isn't the case on other forums.

If we can be of service to you, don't hesitate to ask. We are all in this together.

Hi Marcie,

So glad you are enjoying this board. As Bruce said, we are all in this together and we have all sorts of experience that you can draw from. I had a DBS that was successful, but not a cure. Bruce had a DBS with no results at all, maybe a worsening of some symptoms. But he is going to have it either redone or have his leads moved. Googy is the best caregiver ever. As Bernie said, if you get overwhelmed by all of the advice people give you, then back off for a while, or come here and vent. There are times when you can have too much information too.

As far as the insomnia, use it to your best advantage. Don't just lay there and count sheep (does anyone do that anymore?) but get up and get something done, like laundry, or something else. I know with three kids you don't have much time for yourself, so maybe reading a book (that is always a sure fire way to put me to sleep) would be good or something else that you like to do.

Ruth
