I could sure use some input. I don't qualify for disabilty because I don't have the required credits in the right time period. I just went back to work 2 years ago after taking time off when my boys were born. Now I am trying to gather the required paper work to get SSI. Each person I talk to at SSA gives me a different answer. I am still working part time because we just can't make it on 1 income. Any input, opinions, comments will be greatly appreciated.
Anyway, I hope all is going well in the new year.

Hi Marcie,
I really don't know a lot about SSSI, but I do know about disability. From what I hear, I was one of the lucky ones and got approved the first time around. SSSI, I think, stands for Supplemental Social Security Income, or something like that. While SSDI stands for Social Security Disability Income.
If you don't have enough credits, I'd advise you to get them, unless you are so bad you can't work. If you are, you most certainly would qualigy for the SSSI, I would think, especially with three children at home.
Does your husband work? Do you have a husband? Sorry to get so personal, but I just want to see where you stand.
Anyway, I believe the same things apply for SSSI as for SSDI. Be very precise when you fill out the forms. When they ask you how much pain you have, give specific examples. And make a copy of everything you send in. Not only do they sometimes lose things, but also they will send you another form that asks for basically the same things, and it helps to have something to refer to as to how you put things down.
Hope this helps somewhat.

Oh, yes, I forgot to mention. You tend to get a different answer each time you ask SS for some information, so don't rely too much on their replies. And always get a name and write down the time and date you called. At least that gives you some proof of who told you what.

Marcie,
I think you would qualify for SSSI.One thing if you go see the Dr.for this ; dont take your PD pills.Ruth has stated more which you need to follow.
I know what you mean about enough credits for SSDI.I dont either.I get mine off of Bills. I hope you can work more, I think you need ten quarters of credits.Which should be 2 1/2 years.
Good luck, there will be a way.
