Can anyone recommend a psychiatrist who specializes in the diagnosis of adult a.d.d. in the Torrance/Manhattan Beach (South Bay) area of Southern California?
Thanks so much http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Are you referring to Dr. John Moeller -
I hope so - I just looked up his name on our insurance list and he is listed as a provider.
Do you have any experience with him you would feel comfortable relaying?
Thanks SO much for your quick reply to my original question - I appreciate it.

Yup that's him. I don't but have heard good things about him. My doc is in the Amen clinic referral list and unfortunatly not covered under insurance. If you are interested in names not covered in the insurance company that work with the Amen clinic let me know.

Thanks for your reply. It's taken me awhile to reply. I made an appointment with Dr. Moeller - but in the interim I took an appointment with ANOTHER psychiatrist covered by insurance and just saw him about an hour ago. I had absolutely no rapport with this guy and I am glad I kept the appointment with Dr. Moeller. It's not very often that I feel an immediate dislike for someone but this was actually set in place by the way they handle things before you even get to the appointment. To make matters worse, he was condescending and at times just rude.
I've looked at the Amen Clinic list and you're right, at least with our insurance none of them are included in the network.
Thanks again for your reply! I hope things go better with Dr. Moeller in January.
Now i'm curious, I probably know every pdoc in southern california who deals with AD/HD (or suposively deals with it). This wouldn't happen to be Pratty, or Ruderman would it ?
Out of all the psychiatrists I've been to (which is alot), it's VERY hard to find a doctor who doesn't have mental problems themselves. Or at least someone who tries to suppress them. I've also noticed that you usually see the doctors 'true colors' on the second visit, if you haven't on the first.
Most pdocs are VERY ignorant in terms of AD/HD. I've even had a pdoc tell me you'll prob just have to 'live with it', well I 'snapped' (thanks ADD.. lol) and really challenged his knowledge in ADD, he didn't know anything about it and at the end, he finally admitted that "he didn't believe in ADD".
I've even had another doc just say no you're just depressed, and I didn't agree that was the root issue, so he basically said, you don't know what you're talking about "I'm the one who went to med school", blah, blah, blah. I actually made an appt. with him again after I had SPECT scans done just to prove to him he was wrong and show him the proof. That was one of the worst pdocs i've been to and really got on my nerves. lol
I've never been to a psychiatrist with a negative tone, I've always been very nice, compliant, friendly, but I wouldn't take it when they tried to be rude with me so that's usually when it all started.
I saw a pdoc out by UCLA, thinking these pdocs would be "better", lol. The secretary I swear was about to have a 'nervous breakdown' from this guy, he was such a dick.
What's funny is I've even told a another different psychiatrist that have you thought you may have ADD ? (Due to the way he was acting), he said of course not, don't you think I'd know ? blah, blah, blah
My doc now(which is totally cool, nice, and very knowledgable) knows this guy, and I told her about him and a few months ago told me that, that doctor was diagnosed at a clinic much like the Amen clinic and he did indeed have it.
Most pdocs go into the field for 1 of two reasons. 1.) They have a disorder themselves or someone closely related to them does, or
2.) Psychiatry is one field that the doctor can actually see a much more positive reward in terms of helping patients than any other field of medicine.
