View Full Version : Any other hyper-sensitivities?

Anyone notice any other hyper-sensitivities, other than hearing? Such as very sensitive to pain, or high levels of awareness of your body and what's going on with it (ie: "feeling" it a little more than other people, like you can just "tell" when something is wrong way before most people would "notice" a problem?), or very sensitive skin, or eyes sensitive to light, how about ultra sensitive to perfumes or scents (ie: really bothered by odors, chemicals, colognes, to the degree where most people don't notice, or sense it but are not irritated by it, but you smell it like it's overwhelmingly strong?)

I'm talking about real issues, (as opposed to imagined sensations) -- so real perfume, real sunlight, real disorders, -- but you pick up on them either sooner than others, or sense them to a much greater degree than others?

When I was a kid I had SUPER sensitive feeling on the skin. Clothes had to be just right, for example I couldn't stand a tag from shirts, I'd have to rip them out. I also couldn't stand the seems in socks, they would drive me crazy. My hearing was also a very sensitive issue. For instance, the sound of hearing someone eat, like sluppuring, or crunching while they ate gave me the chills, made me angry, and just plain drove me crazy.

Yes, I'm totally the same way! Okay, so it isn't just me. People usually think I'm "over reacting" to things because it doesn't bother them as much. But what this hyper sensitivity has done for me, for as much as it irritates me and makes me difficult to please, it's also given me a heightened sense of awareness to use to my advantage, for example, when exercising, being able to know my body very well.

The biggest problem is getting people to take you seriously. I feel fortunate that my doctor has learned over time to trust my intuitiveness about my body. I know that is rare.

I wonder what makes this connection, does anyone know?

At any rate, thank you for the reply. It's interesting to know others experience this too, and that there are some associations. I wonder why we're like this,....

HI:

I have a heightened sense of intuition and feel its directly related to my ADD brain.

For me, I can look at a person and know all about them, can see images of traumas and at this point in my life, I am like a laser beam and use both sides of my brain. The left side of my brain picks up all the data in images, feelings etc. The right side gives me information and data... the combination of the two is helpful for me in day to day life. I have read that many ADD people are intuitive, as our frontal lobes do not filter out the vast amounts of information we take in. I rely on this ability, and find it to be benefical to my success and well being.

I'm the same way. I'm not exactly a people person in that I shy away from social situations, but when I am interacting with people, for the most part I can be pretty empathetic about their situation, and know certain things about their life that they are not outright sharing with me, such as home life, personal life, personality traits, tendancies,...I guess you could call it intuition. I've had some pretty interesting experiences, to say the least, but never necessarily associated them with ADHD. It's interesting though to hear of others having them as well.

I often feel like my entire life is "on 10" or something, that everything I feel or perceive is very heightened, so that means good or bad. But my impressions, reactions, intuitive perceptions,... like I have a very direct link and bypass the fluff.

Hmm....
