I went to my Dr. with a whole bunch of things going on and they refered me to a nero dr who took one look at my hands and without any tests said I have Essential Tremor. So I said "Fine" I just needed something to stop the shaking and the other symptoms which included eye tics, vertigo, burning in my foot and up my thighs, muscles tensing up,hard time walking, too many to list... :)
Topomax helped all but the shaking... :(..would maybe PD Meds help?
I was going to ask my dr about Sinemet CR because he is going to take me off Topomax because as I said earlier it has not helped my tremors.I have hand tremors and internal tremors also.He is trying me on Inderal now as we speak but I have been on it 2 weeks and not a day goes by that I am not nauseous.
Any help will be surely appreciated... :)

Rhonda, ET is different than pd and occurrs equally on each aide of the body. With the exception of the tremors, there are no other symptoms as seen in pd. The ET may be hereditary and the tremors may worsen over time. I saw no evidence that Sinemet would have any positive effect on the ET.
The first drug of choice is Primidone. Because anxiety causes ET to be more severe, there are several drugs that should relax you and they are the anti anxiety drugs clonazepam, ativan, and xanax.
If your conditions become intolerable, DBS surgery of the thalamus has been shown to be successful. I have had two DBS surgeries of the STN for pd, and i have no involuntary movements. The surgery works well for tremors, but you are not assurred it will work for everyone.
