Hello, does anyone have any advice, tricks on the best way to use the PC when you have a PD tremor??
The mouse is very difficult, at times. I slowed down the clicks but it is still a challange.
Thanks,
Conchata

Conchata, i have a Dell pc and i don't know for sure this will help you, but i clicked on start, clicked on control panel and then clicked on mouse. Their are several options there, a few can adjust the speed which the mouse will respond. This may or may not solve your problem.
You might see your doctor for an adjustment in your medications, because it looks like you have a lot of tremor. Sinemet is the most effective drug, if you can handle some dyskinesia.
Good luck, Bruce

Thank you Bruce and Googy,
I'll check at Best Buy, to see if they know of another kind of mouse. What about something that you talk into, voice command. Have you heard of anything like that? By the way it is my husband that has PD. He is home all day and I would love to see him become more familiar with the internet by using the PC. Also, I e-mail him from work with little, just little honey-do's and would love for him to write back to me. ha ha
Thanks again for the info.

Conchata, I a not allowed to give you specific sites, but if you enter "purchasing computer mouse" as search words you should see a wide variety of mice.
Same thing for voice recognition software. I tried it with my last pc, but my pc couldn't handle it. It does work, but you can't use it with a cheap computer. You program it by speaking into the microphone, and the software adjusts to your voice. The more you talk, the better it will work. If your husband doesn't speak into it clearly it will misspell words.

Hello,
I will try the word search.
I will also keep searching.
I'll also slow down the clicks of the mouse a little more.
I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
Thanks again.
Have a great weekend.

Conchata, i investigated some sites for different types of mice, and found a site with one type operated with the feet, and another one is voice activated. The voice activated mouse looked easy to use.

I am collecting data to figure out the way and habit of how people with tremor problems to use computer, I think the most problem you people meet are having difficults to move mice and do click. But I need some precise number such as how long you guys to finish moving pointer from one corner on the screem to the other corner in a diagonal 17' monitor. And I also want to know is there any other specifical problems such as for some MS (multiple sclerosis) they don't have enough stress to take off their fingers from keyboards.
Your reply are welcomed, because we need to know what are good to you.

Hai,
I talked to my husband and he said that is major problem more and more is just being able to sit at the computer leave alone being able to keep his hand still enough to type on the key board. We are looking for a voice activated keyboard or mouse. We have looked a a few things and they were not what we were looking for. It took my husband 7 seconds to move the mouse pointer from 1 corner to the other corner.

Conchata, i have another search word for you: "voice activated mouse". One company called Realize software
totally elminated the mouse and is voice activated. You can order from the web site, but i don't know anything about the cost.
