rainy they put me on a dose that i could barely function anymore on a daily basis.
i got a 2nd opinion and quit cold turkey.
now i'm fine.
i wasn't even thinking anymore.
i coud barely do my normal routine!!!!
i also had partial seizures when i woke up i'd feel my stomache sink in like a pit uncontrollably and i had severe tremors.
what a nitemare.
just over medicated.
the depakote didn't do this but i was taking that for anxiety and depression.
thanks for your input.

I was on Zyprexa for about 4 months, i hated it. It made me feel like i had arthritus, i never wanted to get out of bed and slept for up to 22 hours at a time. I started taking Zyprexa while i was in the hospital for an Adjustment Disorder and started to hear running water. It really scared me. When the doctor put me on it he said that it was a sleeping pill. I later found out that it was an antiphysocitic.

there are so many different theories on meds i wonder if any are actual factual.

i was told zyprexa is for a lot of things.

i was taking it for anxiety-GAD

it helped for me however but i didn't want the weight gain

I don't know the mechanics of the drug. I know that it slowed my reation time to everything and put me into a trance. I was unable to go to school or even drive safely.

I think that I just had a bad reaction to the medicine and thankfully i have been off the medicine for over 2 years.

And a note about the orginal question... my doctor gave me descrestion to use the zyprexa as needed and the amount that i thought i needed, within reason. Depakote on the otherhand (which i was on for over a year) is usually not taken as needed because it controls certian chemicals in your body. It can also cause seziures and several other things like liver damage. That is while on depakote you have to get blood tests several times a month.

I wouldn't say that there is a very clear answer to that, but I am including the defination from the DSM-IV.

Overview:
Depressed Mood
Somatic/Sexual Dysfunction
Guilt/Obsession

Diagnostic Criteria:
A.) The development of emotional or behavioral symptoms in response to an identifiable stressor(s) occurring within 3 months of the onset of the stressor(s).

B.) These symptoms or behaviors are clinically significant as evidenced by either of the following:
1.) marked distress that is in excess of what would be expected from exposure to the stressor
2.) significant impairment in social or occupational (academic) functioning

C.) The stress-related disturbance does not meet the criteria for another specific Axis I disorder (clinical disorder) and is not merely an exacerbation of a preexisting Axis I or Axis II disorder (Personality Disorder or Mental Retardation).

D.) The symptoms do not represent Bereavement.

E.) Once the stressor (or its consequences) has terminated, the symptoms do not persist for more than an additional 6 months.

Specify if:
Acute: if the disturbance lasts less than 6 months
Chronic: if the disturbance lasts for 6 months or longer

Adjustment Disorder subtypes are selected according to the predominant symptoms:
With Depressed Mood
With Anxiety
With Mixed Anxiety and Depressed Mood
With Disturbance of Conduct
With Mixed Disturbance of Emotions and Conduct
Unspecified

My adjustment disorder was ingnited by a suicide of a close friend and the comming to terms of my sexuality.

My husband takes 20 mg Zyprexa at night and then the Dr. gave him 2.5 mg Zyprexa to take AS NEEDED during the day if his anxiety gets really bad.

He also takes 1000 mg. of extended release Depakote at night. He was told that he had to take this each day.

Kava Kava is an herb which can be taken as needed.

hi.

i'm confused.why duz he take depakote for?

just curious cuz a pharmacist told me it can also be taken per diem being its controlled release,as is the paxl cr i take, and the zyprexa 5mg.

i taKE THE depakote mostly for migraines at end of my cycle, wen i get migraines, stress, depression, etc.
that is usually up to 10 days...
the zyprexa i take for high stress pre menstrual

but tell me if u can find out if the mood stabilizer depakote is ok to take as needed,as i was told.

thanks!!!!!!

they both help per diem for me but i still fear weight gain

The dr. gave him the depakote as a mood enhancer. They told him that he had to take it every day. That's interesting that you were told you could take yours "as needed." Maybe we should talk with his doctor again. I'd love to see him get off of some of his drugs. I feel like he's really over medicated.
