This may be a stupid question...but what is schizophrenia? I've heard of it but I don't know exactly what it does to you.

Hello Ashlee,
I grew up with a mother diagnosed with paranoid schitz. I don't have all the answers, nor do I know myself exactly what schitz is, but I know what it does.
First of all, I know that it is a mental related disorder. It has something to do with the persons brain, and something isn't quite right. It causes the person to see, hear and think things that aren't really there or haven't happened. Read my post on schitz, and read my second reply. It explains some of the things my mother has done when she is ill.

That is such a common question hon but still schitzophrenia is hard for anyone to explain .. Silent probably knows as well as I how it can be hard to live with someone with it though. Every day is different. Do visit the link Zafu left as theres info there. The best and simplest way I can explain
A person that thinks in black in white "Only"
you and I we think in color, we can make sense of most things in our daily life and rationalize.
Someone with schitzophrenia has a rough time "trying" to think in color therefore is frustrated easily.
Does this make sense? if not I'll try to explain it differently

My son has this too and We tried to get him committed once at a hospital, We made a mistake not knowing the way to do this. You need a criseces center person to help you fill out the paper work,this is a must,we the hospital gives you a form to fill out and it says in what detail has the person in question has been doing, then it means that,so if the person has been talking to walls and to people that are not really there then you have to put that on the form and any other things that have happened, and things like if the person has threated sucide or wanting to kill other people then you have to be specifeic about it, If you leave this stuff out then that person can sign him or her self out in 3 days and you r back at square 1 again.right now my son is in jail for varouis thing he has done. Now whether he will get the help he needs we won't know because in the courts eyes he is an adult now, he's 20 yrs old, but he has been acting like he's 6 or 7. The police have told us we r not responsable for what he does now but he my fleash and blood so what do I do ,I guess what and see for now.

( ok this is kinda the God/ Devil version on this subject. i dont know if i am right or wrong and im sorry to offend anyone who doesnt believe in God or the Devil. )
Schizophrenia is when a demon or evil spirit enters your body and makes you think there are things or people there that arent there. or from what ive heard its where you have more than 1 personality. u and that demon(s). for example there is personality 1 and personality 2 if personality 1 is in control personality 2 doesnt know what personality 1 is doing so when personality 1 finaly takes over again it doesnt remember what personality 2 has done. a schitzo can have more than one personality or demon possesing their body. it all depends on what happens. this is only what i have heard i am not sure if this is tru or if its a bunch of bull shizz but i, personally, believe that. but i also believe in God Devil demons and possesion all that stuff. haha hope that you find out what u wanted to know. (silent im really sorry about your mother, i hope she gets better sum day :( and pigsrcute2 im sorry about your son. i hope he gets better one day to. )

Schizophrenia has nothing to do with 'multiple personalities' and even less to do with demons....!
It's this sort of ignorance that reinforces peoples prejudices against those with mental illness <sigh>

You really need to read up on schitzophrenia I don't mean to sound harsh but demons? come on you watch too much television Theres alot of good places to research schizophrenia you need to take a look at this forum a little closer too and read the real life stories of very loving families.

Multiple personalitys isnt schizophrenia its dissasociative disorder there not related. I have scizophrenia and im sure im not possessed. Seeing as how I can walk into a church and not burn to death. I think you need to read up on the disorder before you comment on it. No offense or anything. But saying that someone with this disorder has demons in them makes us feel worse about it. So no your wrong!!!!!!!

Sometimes I will be sleeping and I will have such a wierd dream but it's more like I am hallucinating and I will wake up and try to catch what ever object is flying in my room and sometimes I scream. I suffer from depression, ocd, and anxiety. Could this be a symptom of sctitzophrenia?

You are very true in what you say. I do have schizophrenia and know what i see and feel to be true. Only one thing you forgot, there are also good spirits (Angels and the Holy Spirit) that enter ones body as well. Remember the body is just a vessle and for what ever reason people that has schizophreria has these things happen to them. Yet the bad voices (spirits/demons) can be control with the good voices (God and the Angels). Oh, for those other people making comments on reading up on this illness. Question, do you have this illness? Do you believe in God? If you say no to both, then i would ask you please to talk and get to know people with schizophrenia. You'll be surprized on how many people with schizophrenia will say there are demons. You can read about schizophrenia but unless you have it you don't know either. You can read about God and even believe there is a God, but if you don't know Jesus your still lost!
