I'm kind of doing a pole, out of my curiosity, to see what form of auditory hallucinations different schizophrenics have. Do\did you hear voices within your head (like hearing with the "mind's ear" so to speak)? Or do\did you hear voices as full blown auditory hallucinations coming from outside your head (like an invisible person speaking to you)?

Hi, new here. All I remember, before being heavily medicated of course, is that when I heard them speak it was like they were hiding somewhere in the room. So you could say they were originating from outside my head, only they weren't really. Fortunately they didn't bother me all the time, it was pretty random. Since I went on the antipsychotics (Risperdal, Zyprexa and now Geodon) they've pretty much faded away...haven't heard from them in quite a long time. And that's ok by me. I hope your poll goes well.

Look I have a 30 year old brother who is now HOMELESS and ON THE STREETS just because of the illness and He's been sick for almost 12 years now and each time you switch the different medication it shortens your life and we found that out in the 8th year of it, also no you cannot cure it nor can you stop the voices or Hallucinations or awfull thoughts, they're permanent for good they never go away neither do the people they visualize, some are nice and some are evil!!! But you'll never know untill you experience it for yourself it's horrible, its like they're 2 years old one minute and the next they are claiming that they're 50 and retired from the C.I.A. But it's not true it's just the imagination,( Merchant Marinist, military recruits) I mean it never ends, as it gets worse (vampire crack all different flavors and colors, President Nixon, Roosevelt, Licoln, all work in his office.)But that all isnt true as you can SEE! It's just in they're heads but because its them they think they really see it because it's they're IMAGINATION! Then they stop taking medicine and the ship wrecks there's no more of that person thinking right, be carefull and dont leave them home alone you might not have a house when you come home. They burn things on the stove thinking its not done yet, which may/and did cause a kitchen fire for you/us. Then we had to pay $800.00 dollars to get our drains and bathtub un-CEMENTED, then while driving watch the road if they should snap they're going through every red light in the city maybe wrecking maybe not? Thats the risk you will take, also watch you phones and phone jacks! They will get torn apart (because of a bug or tapped wire)but once again its not true, Schizophrenics Keep your heads up, and loved ones to people with the illness my heart goes out to all of you ,its gonna be a long ride.

I'm optomistic at this point. I believe full recovery is possible.

You should be, some cases are more important than others and more serious but like I said you'll never know untill you experience it for yourself, they even act like they're better but most of the time they're not, and they are very good at "playing it off" especially if they are intellegent! But some can recover and most can't. But I was speaking from my point of view most of the time in my post.

Hi Arebe! How are you? In 2000 I was the latter of your examples, but my recent relapse (until now I was never medicated) was definitely more voices seemingly playing a mind game with me (although at times I thought others were speaking to me, but they weren't). I have now been on Serenace (Haldol) for 8 days, and I am no longer hearing voices, and what I now realise were hallucinations is a thing of the past. I had bad side effects the first three days (nausea, dry mouth and chest area, exhaustions, and, during a run, had a dystonic reaction - ie couldn't control the 'shakes', stiffness right down the right side of my neck and body). Today is the 8th day of my meds, and I managed to complete a 20km run (and enjoy it!), with NO problems whatsoever. I am running Comrades, and thus fulfilling a long-held dream, in 2 weeks (89km).
The pdoc reduced my dosage (1/4 tablet twice daily). Says I may relapse (given my track record), and is a believer in the genetic theory (ie because I have had sz my kids have a strong chance of experiencing the same). Will be taking my meds for at least 1 1/2 months. Will keep you informed.
