I have a friend with an eccentric family. I've never really seen bahvior like this, and I am wondering what the problem is. Let's start with her brother...
He is 40 years old and has held 2 jobs for about 6 months his entire life. He is completely supported by his parents. He lives in a trailer with a very unstable woman. His mother says he "lacks the capacity to plan" and has suffered from depression. I think it goes beyond this. His personal appearance is shoddy (long hair, skinny, rarely showers) and he is very shy. Yet despite this he is reasonably intelligent.
Now his father is even stranger. He smacks his lips all the time and essentially babbles, seemingly unable to put together a meaningful train of thought. He's always been like this! He is quiet and in his "own world." Occasionally, you can have a conversation with him, but it is frustrating. And he went to an Ivy league school! But after graduating, he worked as a civil engineer but never got past junior status.
What is the deal with this family? Is this a psychotic disorder? Autism? Schizophrenia? If any doctos visit the site, or if anyone has any ideas, feel free to comment.
