View Full Version : Reactions to Adderall?

I've just begun to take Adderall for ADD - literally just two days ago. I know that I've got to give the medication time to work and for my body to adjust to its effects, but ...

I don't like its physical effects. I feel fluttery and just not good. Just a bit queasy, too. The mental effects are interesting. Yes, I was surprised at the way it "closes all the doors" in my mind that always let too many thoughts to come flying into and out of my head every second. But although this extraneous bombardment is gone, my primary focus seems to fade out a bit, making me somewhat lethargic. One good thing - it makes me sleepy. And it's usually so hard for me to go to bed at night because my brain is still thinking of a hundred things at once.

I'd like to hear how others have dealt with both the initial stages of taking Adderall and how the effects may or may not have changed over the course of taking the medication. Who knows? This may not be the med for me - I don't expect the first med I take for ADD to be the "eureka!" pill.

Thanks in advance, folks!

You may do better on the XR form where the dose supplied is much more gradual and sustained with it's effects a lot longer.

Ditto. Long acting XR may be more even. Good attitude to be willing to try different regimens. Keep a journal. There are lots of variable to consider - diet, hormones. Good luck!

The idea of keeping a journal is a good one - and I'm doing it now. Boy, the last week and a half with Adderall has really been tough. I've had everything from the jitteries to being zombied-out and tired. Then there's the digestive side-effects, which are pretty bad.

The doc adjusted the way I took my dosage - 10mg in the morning, 5 mg in the afternoon and 5mg at night - and the reaction has been much better. The medication actually helps me to sleep. One of the problems was that the former second dose was wearing off right around the time I was getting to bed, and I couldn't turn off my head. Tons of scraps of thoughts just swirled around, trying to get my attention. Really maddening. But with the later dosage, I can just relax and go to sleep. Kind of ironic, considering Adderall is a stimulant.

I'm starting to feel mentally sharper, and I actually went through all of my bills and stacks of "to do" items (which usually *don't* get done) without getting sidetracked. Took only about an hour for everything - and it seemed so overwhelming! I'm starting to see a glimmer of hope ...

But then I've always been a hopeful guy. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

"Kind of ironic, considering Adderall is a stimulant."

Most people would be up all night bouncing off the wall. lol

I'd ask your doctor about the XR form though, I think you may be pleasantly suprised.
