I need to know what the chances are of getting pregnant while on the pill are. I am 5 days late for my period. I take the pill, but a few times last month I forgot to take it. I doubled up the next day (this happend three times)like the precription said to. I'm worried because I am never late. My husband and I never use protection. Please help!!

I believe your odds to get pregnant on the pill, if used correctly, are about 5%. Pretty high when you think about it, but then no birth control is really 100% effective... I am one of that 5% so I can tell you it is possible! Good luck, and take a home pregnancy test as soon as you can or see your doctor. I hope everything works out for you.

Yes, indeed, you could be pregnant. If you forget and double up more than once, you should have continued your pills as usual but also used foam and condoms for the rest of the cycle.
You should probably test and find out.

I am living proof that you can get pregnant on the pill, my daughter is 10 months old, and my Dh and I were definately not trying but she is a miracle none the less.

according to Hatcher et al., 1998 for PERFECT use of the pill, these are the percentages the women will get an unintended pregnancy in a year
progestin only pill - 0.5%
combined pill - 0.1%
keep in mind, this is with perfect use. I'm not sure how many women were tested in this study, (it appeared on the ortho perscription pamphlet information) but I think most pills have a pregnancy rate of about 1 percent for the average user who takes all the pills pretty much on time.
I think the general rule is that if you miss 2 pills in your pack (i.e. like 20 hours later than you should have, (not applicable if you are like 10 minutes late)), then you need to use an alternate form of birth control for the remainder of the month

I also took the pill perfectly and got preg... though MCd at 7 weeks.
I know they say it doesn't... but I can't help but wonder if getting preg while taking the pill increases MC?!

I got pregnant while on the pill I had been taking for 6 years, and I had not missed a pill in years, nor was I on antibiotics. My OB said that she has had lots of women coming in who have conceived lately on the exact pill I was on, and I just found out that a friend who was on the same pill has also become pregnant! The one we were all on was a generic that the Navy gives out - I don't think they'll be giving those out anymore, though!
So, yep, this baby was a surprise, but we're as thrilled about it as we would have been had we been trying to conceive!
