I am 10 weeks pregnant and have had awful m/s for the last 4 wks. I have tried everything from saltine crackers to gingerale and nothing seems to help. My Doctor prescribed premesis , it seemed like it helped for a while and then just got worse. He has now changed my prescription to phenergan. Has anyone ever taken this before? I was just wondering if it works but mostly wondering if it is really safe or not.

Welcome to pregnancy! I had no luck with phenegran and never tried Premesis. I have heard of it though. Ask your dx to prescribe Zofran. It is a wonder drug for most women with severe m/s.

I know how you feel and I really hope you feel better. Mine lasted till week 16 and I still have some remnant of it at 31 weeks.

Take care,

Serena

Im sure your doctor wouldnt give you something that wasn't safe! As far as the MS goes, for some reason LifeSavers and SlimFast worked for me .. I dunno .. that and baked potatos is all I could eat ... good luck and congrats!

Lil Momma - Yes, I have been on Phenergan for the last 4 - 5 weeks and it has been like a miracle for me! Hope it works for you too.

I am 14 wks pg tomorrow, and since week 6 had horrible m/s. I mean I lost 10 lbs in a couple weeks, 5 lbs in one week, and was horribly dehydrated...almost in hospital. Like you I had tried all of the soda crackers and gingerale. My m/s got so bad I was vomiting profusely, couldn't keep ANY liquid down and started bringing up blood all the time. So my Dr. gave me Rx of Phenergan 25 mg (the 12.5 mg didn't work for me) and I still take it every 6 hours. I have hardly thrown up in weeks and am now eating much better.

My Dr. said it won't hurt the baby at all! In fact a couple weeks ago, at 12 wks, we did a sonogram and I saw the baby moving all over, he/she is just fine and having a ball! And all my blood tests were fine too.

Praying your m/s leaves you soon, I know how horrible it can be. Let me know how you're doing. Take care.

Hi everyone, just wanted to say thanks for all the replies and suggestions. It is so nice to be able to come in here and talk to people who are going through the same things.

Well so far I have been feeling much better since taking the phenergan , I haven't been as sick today but, the only downside is that it is making me extremely drowsy and wanting to sleep all day.(I know that is alot better than being sick though and believe me I would rather sleep all day then have to put up with being sick, but I really need to get back to work) Does anyone know of any other meds that won't make me sleep all day and that I can work with? or does anyone know if this will wear off? I would greatly appreciate any more suggestions....Oh and by the way I am due Oct. 12th. Thanks!

Oh just FYI - I've gotten much more used to the sleepiness and drowsy feelings from the medicine the more I used it. Doesn't bother me now, only a little sometimes. I love to sleep too and also have to work. The more you take it the more your body will become accustomed to it I should think, mine did. Hope that helps and that you're feeling better.

Well I didn't have any luck with trying to get my doc to prescribe zofran or anything else(he said that I would feel drowsy and sleep with anything he prescribed me and suggested I back off of it a little.)I asked for an exuse for work and they just act like they can't give me one but they will give me a paper saying that I am on this prescription, but the lady at work that handles this stuff says I have to have an exuse . Now I feel like I'm stuck in the middle . Maybe I should just quit taking it and start getting sick again , go to work and throw up all over the place and see how they like that. Sorry for bothering you guys with this , but I am just about at the end of my rope with this and am feeling very frustrated and don't know what to do.

My first thought is to find a new doctor!

My goodness, if any dr. told me to 'back off of something' I'd be out of their office so quick their heads would spin. How irresponsible. My Dr. wrote me an excuse to stay on home rest for one week with no problem because I was so sick I was vomiting up blood all the time. Work had no problem with it, they knew how sick I was. My Dr. also reminded me, as I'm reminding you, that if you don't take care of you now, meaning as early as you are now, then it will only get worse over next few weeks. You'll wear yourself totally down.

Sweetie, you need to take care of you! Stay on the Phenergan and call another Ob/gyn right away. It doesn't seem to me that you're getting the appropriate caring response and responsibility you should be from your current dr. What a jerk. That's just my opinion but it makes my blood boil to hear what a lame response they gave you. They could write you an excuse if they wanted to, obvious they truly don't care. Take care of you and that baby!
