HI. MY SON WAS ON 18MG OF CONCERTA - WORKED GREAT FOR 6 WEEKS, THEN STOPPED WORKING. NOW HE'S ON 27MG - IT TOO WORKED VERY WELL FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS - NOW IT SEEMS TO NOT BE WORKING AS WELL AGAIN- AND HE IS FINDING IT INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO FALL ASLEEP AT NIGHT. BEFORE I STARTED GIVING HIM CONCERTA, FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS I TRIED ALL-NATURAL STUFF. OMEGA 3 & 6 HELPS, BUT NOT ENOUGH. BE-CALMED DIDN'T WORK AT ALL. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ???????? THANK.............DARA

I think a talk with your doctor would be your best bet. Another dosage increase will make it even harder for him to fall asleep and might not have any long term benefits. You might want to consider a different medication such as Strattera, which unlike Ritalin is different enough from Concentra that it might make a difference.

Have you tried an elimination diet? The Feingold Program is a good place to start.

Try a different AD/HD or anti-depressant medication. Also add in mega-dose quality fish oil, DL-phenylalanine, L-tyrosine, gingko biloba, food supplement shakes that are 'packed' with vitamins (I take weight gainer), biofeedback, a high protein and complex carbohydrate diet and last but not least, lots of exercise.

Have you tried Fish Oil? With it, I take two capsules per day, I have been able to reduce my meds by 1/3. I take Dexedrine. I have other friends that also take fish oil and swear by it. The effects may take 1-4 months to fully develop. But since this is something natural that your body needs anyway it does not lose its effectiveness. This is one of those suppliments that everybody should take. Now make sure you get a good brand that has been filtered for heavy metals, it will say on the label.

How about therapy?From what I've learned, the best results are obtained combining drugs and behavior therapy.

I have add and am 26 now i tried alot of herbs and over the counter things that did not work for me and im on Ritalin now. I hate taking drugs for this and would love to get off of it my self..I may now check on the fish oil..thanks so much sammy

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR INPUT! THE FEINGOLD DIET DEFINATELY HELPS- I KEEP HIM ON IT EVEN THOUGH HE IS ON MEDS. HE ALSO GETS FISH OIL EVERY DAY ( NOT WHEN I GIVE HIM THE CONCERTA. SOMEONE HAD SAID THAT THE FISH OIL COULD INTERFERE WITH MEDS IF GIVEN AT THE SAME TIME). I'LL ALSO TRY SOME OF THE OTHER SUGGESTIONS..................THANKS,,,,, ,,,,,,,,DARA
