I have 2 boys with ADHD, ages 6 & 8. I need help! Can anyone tell me what they have done to make your kids eat? My boys are only 47 lbs, and my youngest is losing weight. The oldest has changed his eating habits since starting meds too and isn't gaining weight. They just don't want to eat!! Or very very picky!

Help? I am so worried about their health and we have tried Strattera and had problems with both of them on it and it didn't help their eating.

I guess if I had scrolled down I wouldn't have posted this message. I got some answers in a previous post. If you have any other recommendations, please let me know! thanks

HI , I too have had the same problems with my boys on the meds for adhd, I left a post on Straterra and puberty post. I tried giving my sons the Ensure which i knew would give them at least recommmended vitamins and i also gave them the boost drink with icevream stuff like that, My dr said give them whatever they would eat . I know how hard it is , My oldest son didnt gain any weight for almost a yr or more, We tried the straterra which was really my last hope, but it didnt work . I wish you tons of luck, Hope you find something that will work for your boys. Sassy

What are they taking? When my son was on Concerta, I would make sure he ate before taking it in the morning. Unfortunately, after that, he was not hungry until around 8:30-9:00 pm, when it wore off. He didn't gain any weight for eight months--that was one of the reasons we tried Strattera. The Strattera DOES help my son's appetite, and his sleeping (which he had trouble with while on Concerta). Ritalin, timed right, also worked for him to increase his eating. He ate breakfast before taking Ritalin, then ate lunch before the afternoon dose. We didn't do an after school dose so that he'd be hungry around dinner. Right now, he's taking Strattera with one morning dose of Ritalin a day. His eating and sleeping are both okay right now. But, we may try Concerta again once school starts (he'll be in middle school). Hope this helps a bit.

As already mentioned they should eat breakfast before taking their medication. Keep a supply of the foods and snacks they really like in the house (not junk food of course). Also consider making them milkshakes for a snack routinely and do a search on the web for high calorie foods and pick some that the boys like and keep those handy to snack on. Also since they may not eat right be sure they are taking a good multivitamin.
