I have been having severe pain in one of my ears for the past two years. I can go weeks without any pain and then it hits me in the middle of the night. Most of the time this happens at night and the pain wakes me up. I get a little bit of pain during the day as well but nothing compared to what I experience at night. I have mentioned this to so many doctors and nobody sees anything. Now Im wondering if I should ask to be refered to an ear, nose and throat doctor to see what they can come up with. Its bothering me that Ive left it so long. Doctor says that I might be getting fluid in the ear but she sees nothing.
I would really like some suggestions or maybe someone is going through the same thing as me?

I have a similar problem. Only one ear, comes and goes, and it's an intense pain. When I feel an earache coming on, I "irrigate" my ear by injecting lukewarm water into the canal, then allowing it to drain. This clears up any wax blockage. The pain will eventually return, I am guessing I just have an excess of wax production in the one ear. It's easily treatable, maybe it would work for you as well.
