I went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago for purple feet. After a complete blood test the only thing they found was a elevated red blood count. (3 points above normal). I passed the pulmonary function test so now I'm off to a hematologist next week. As soon as I heard about my blood test, I've notice that upon standing my legs get painful and very red. It eases up once I sit down, and it's not there first thing in the morning.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm pretty scared and I tend to stress myself out pretty bad.
Thanks.

I am not sure if this is the same thing however I also
am having a problem with redness and pain in my lower legs. It is nearly gone in the morning but later as I get up and move around I get a prickly feeling sort of like pins and needles and it gets worse during the day as my legs swell some and get a darker color and the skin feels kind of rough and hard. Don't know what is going on but don't like it that's for sure.

I was searching the boards for information on Essential Thrombocytosis. My mother was very recently diagnosed with this rare disease. It is a myeoloproliferative(sp?) disorder. Her RBC is very high (over a million). Some of her symptoms are pressure and pins and needles in her feet and mostly her ankles. Bruising in the ankles which we later found out was bleeding into them. Some of her other symptoms were fatigue, headaches and excessive itching especially after a warm bath. I'd be interested in knowing what became of your dr apt.
