Does anyone know if straterra causes kids to take on different personality moods than they normally have? For example, my son is really somber and never laughs or smiles while he's on adderall. When he's off of adderall he's a really happy, jolly little guy. I'm wondering if straterra causes moodiness or just a personality change over all. Also has anyone had stomach problems or head aches with this medicine. Thanks for info provided!

My daughter is in a better mood and less irratable since she switched from Concerta to Strattera. She was very tired the first week, but now is ok. No headaches or stomachaches.

My seven year old son has been on Addrell XR for the past month and God only knows the positive effect it has had on my son's social skills. The teachers now love him and he is able to score better in his tests. My question is does Straterra seem to work on the same day you give it to the child or does it takes days to kick in?

In my daughter's case, it kicked in the same day. This was something I was worried about as well because I didn't want to risk her being unmanageable at school. She was fine, and less irritable, too.

My child has been on Straterra for three weeks and it definitely needs to build up in the system. This is not like a stimulant, so don't expect immediate results. Also, dosing is based on the weight of the child and needs to be moderated accordingly. We have been very pleased with the drug to date.

I have just been in contact with my doctor concerning Straterra, he indicated he has had good luck with it, we are going to try it, I haven't really had a chance to completely speak with my doctor yet, but to: cwiner, having your child come off Concerta - was there any problems?? My son is on 54mg. since last summer, and I fear their will be bad mood swings??? as on concerta in the "late" evening that is one of our biggest side effects, not always realy bad, but enough. Thanks.

My 13 year old daughter has been on it about 3 weeks and now at 65mg. In the last week she has been moody, tearful and verbally combative. Before Strattera, she was on various SSRI's along with her stimulants for the last 4 years. She was last on Concerta with Zoloft before the Strattera. 3 weeks later with only Strattera, she has become increasingly difficult. It almost like the the SSRI's are now out of her system and the antidepressant affect of the Strattera hasn't kicked int yet or is not enough or not the right type. Has anyone ever heard of combing an SSRI with the Strattera? By the way, her ADHD symptoms seem way better. She is calmer and more focused. Her sleepiness during the day has also subsided.
Has anyone experienced what I am explaining? Also, like I said in an earlier post, it is hard to separate hormonal 13 year old girl stuff from the efficacy of the med.

Straterra is weight based. 65 mgs seems high, is that right? Mine is going to be on 50 mgs. Not very heavy due to all the appetite suppression with XR.
Adult posted started @ 25 mgs. and going to 40 mgs. Verify that her dosage is what it should be.

As far as Adderal & moods. On regular Adderal, it was rough rough rough for my 13 year old. Adderal XR was better, but definitely "edgy" with anger & frustration always right under the surface. With Straterra I am amazed to see the emergence of a sense of humour. What I have heard is that some wake up smiling for the first time - and it looks great! It is still too soon to tell for us (day 5.5) but definitely some "evening out". Just having the desire to eat again implies a "joie de vive" I have not seen in way too long. Perhaps it is those that struggle with the stimulants that do so well. I was very guarded in my expectations. In retrospect, I now realize that indeed the Adderal results were not as good as it gets.
Every child deserves happiness,it is hard to get beyond that thought. Adderal led the way to success @ school, but @ a price. Unmedicated price would have been exponentially higher.....Switching meds is rough, and you will have to write off a week of school. You just get through it. Every child deserves to find happiness within themselves. I am thinking that mine will has found it and wants nothing more than to share it with others.
