I would be interested to hear from RLS suffers who can trace their condition though their family. In my case 2 out of 3 of my siblings suffer from RLS in varying degrees but neither of my parents have every had RLS.
Maybe it has skipped a generation? Look forward to hearing your comments.

Mine definitely is. I have it, my mother has it and her father had it. My brother gets it occasionally.

My hubby suffers greatly from this syndrome. He loses so much sleep.
One of his 3 brothers is also a sufferer. History of parents unknown.
Come to think of it, my 1st hubby also had this problem! Could I be a carrier? Sorry... Anyway, he had no sibs, but I don't remember in-laws mentioning that either one suffered when ex spoke of it in conversation.
You may be on to something w/this generation skip.

I have suspected that I inherited this from my father. In his senior years he complained of these exact symtoms. He was a diabetic though and I don't know if that may have been the cause, or if it was connected in any way.

Of 4 of us siblings, 2 of us have it including myself. I consider mine to be worse. I remember my sister at around 7 yrs of age or so, and my mother walking her in the dead of night all through the house to ease her legs. I never went through that until my late 20's and it's gotten progressively worse in the past 25 years or so. I take Klonopin and sometimes in extreme events, I take Sinemet with it. It's the only way I would get any sleep. I also noticed it to go into my arms at times. It can be so annoying.

I have been having problems with RLS for less than a year to my knowledge...just about the same time that my hemoglobin count dropped and I became Iron deficient enemic and was turned down for blood donation. Seeing Hemotologist now and on Iron supplements. My mom age 90 has RLS for many years and meige and blephrospasms. Are all these related to Dystonia? My adopted daughter also has Dystonia from prolixin. The thought that it's in the air entered my thoughts too. Originally posted by Mo:

I have periodic limb movements of sleep but NOT the restless legs, creepy crawly part. AFTER i was diagnosed I found out my Grandfather had PLMS too. The doctors were surprised to find it because I had none of the symptoms, they thought I had sleep apnea.

I have RLS, have had it for at least 10 years, just didn't know what it was. It seems more active at nite, especially if I'm sitting alot. My 3 sisters also have it. I've noticed sometimes if I relieve my bladder it helps(sounds crazy). My sister told me about Glucosaminr Chondroitin, a dietary supplement, so I have been taking that and it does seem to help. I talked to my doctor and he prescribed Sinemet, which I use only when I have a bad spell and can't sleep. And it does seem to work.
