I am starting this dictionary for us. The people connected to ADD. Whether we have it ourselves or we are parents, friends, etc of someone who does, everyones opinions are welcome here. There will most likely be controversial terms in our dictionary. Please do not be offended or take what anyone has written personally. I encourage everyone to participate in this post. I'll start (You can do terms in alphabetical order or skip around)
A = ADHD - Can be defined as a personality type, learning difference, disorder, or gift depending on environment, society, self esteem etc
A = Abusive - Medicating when it is not necessary, Medicating when no other options have been tried.
Not looking deep enough to find the real problem.
Abusive - Refusing to medicate a child who has had no luck with alternative treatments and is being stomped on and crushed by everyday life.
B = Boredom - Something that an ADDer cannot stand. It Untolerable and one of the worst feelings ever!!
C = Children - All the younger people in the world who everyone else needs to stand up for.
D = Drug - Something that can cause unwanted toxic effects to mind or body
"Dont drug our kids"- Do not medicate unless absolutely necessary
A term that is valid in the sense that many people are taking strong medications "drugs" when if alternate treatments were tried they would be just as, or more effective. A term used by many people who have found better ways to deal with their ADD or the ADD of a loved one.
"Dont drug our kids"- No child should be medicated no matter what.
A term that loses validity when a parent of a child refuses to try medication dispite the fact that all other alternative treatments have failed and the child is falling behind their peer group in main areas of life including social interaction, educational needs, maturity level etc.
D = Do - "do medicate" - Only when needed - A term used by educated parents, teachers, doctors. Who know that their are many treatment options for ADD and believe that all these treatments should be tried.
Do - "do medicate all ADHD children" - A term usually given by lazy parents, teachers, and doctors who are not willing to look for better solutions/treatments to the difficulties that arise due to ADHD.
