How long it takes after having sex in order to tell whether a girl is pregnant or not?

Hello.
Firstly, have you missed a period?
If not, wait and see. Even though it is still possible to be pregnant and continue with your period.
So, for this reason, take a home pregnancy test (HPT). Most HPTs work 14 days after the date you possibly conceived. Read the packets.
To be absolutely sure you will need a blood test. I'm not sure of the exact timing needed (7 days?) ....but usually if you get one done the doctor will ask you back for another test two weeks or so later just to be sure....
If you do think you are pregnant do some tests... don't rely on symptoms.

Just an FYI but my doc did not do a blood test to confirm pregnancy. He used the same type of test found in a home pregnancy test to determine that I was pregnant.

Save yourself from this stress and worry. Use a condom! Also, pregnancy isn't the only worry out there these days. Remeber STD's/AIDS?

Milly,again hate to break it to you but ten days after sex is not the right amount of time to tell if a girl is pregnant or not.
For a urine test there are two time periods in which one can test. The first of course being one waits until their period is due and then take a urine test. The second is less known but also less accurate depending onthe girl's cycle. One can wait 17 to 20 days after the sex and take a urine test. Again it wont be as accurate as waiting for one's period but it can sometimes detect pregnancy that way.
The best way though is a blood test which this will depend on the girl's cycle but can be done sooner than urine tests. It can be done as long as the girl is at least a week pregnant. But that has to be after the egg has implanted not after conception. You see the hormone that is looked for in tests isnt produced until after implantation has occrred. Implantation occurrs after conception which tends to happen 5 to 9 days before implantation occurs.
So your ten day thing doesnt really work unless you are counting after ovulation has occurred. Which then would put the girl in the window needed to dtect if pregnancy has occurred or not. But this will only work if the girl knows her cycles and knows when she might have ovulated and hence whent he egg might have been fertilized.
The best bet here is to just wait until her period is due and then have her do a home pregnancy test. If you dont trust that then have her get a blood test at about that time also.
