Hey, another question from me..
I started my period over the summer and I'm due again in a little less than a week. I'd hate to have to wear pads to school, especially since I'm in volleyball too and we have games - I want to focus on the game, not whether I'm getting the inside of my shorts dirty!
I attempted to put in a tampon a few times but when I try to push it up into uhh "myself" it hurts. I don't want to keep pushing in case I do something that's unhealthy or such, you know? So can I have some tips or something? How did you all figure out how to put in your tampon? Are there any websites you know of that could help?

Look up a sight with female anatomy and study how the vagina slants so that you have a better idea of what angle to be intserting them at. Also you may want to try the ones with NO applicator since you would be the one guiding it into place.

yeah definitely try a different angle. i had the same problem as you for about two years, actually. you just have to point it in the right direction. the way i think of it is keep it against the upper edge, more toward your stomach as opposed to your back. if you stay to that side it will hurt less and kind of be a guide.
you might want to try a plastic or satin applicator with a rounded tip. those are much easier/more comfortable to insert. although, i started out using just cardboard with no rounded tip, and i'm glad i did because now i'm used to it. but if it's just too hard for you, use the more comfy kind the first few times, and then work your way up to the other kind. see, you'll want to be able to use both kinds, otherwise if you don't have a tampon on you and all the vending maching/your friends have are the non-rounded cardboard, you'll be in trouble. oh, and make sure it's in as far as it can go. you shouldn't feel a thing after you take out the applicator. if you do, it's not in far enough.
well that's my two cents. good luck!

hey don't be rolling your eyes, i read the directions and it doesn't explain very well nor give any real tips, at least not the directions in the box that i used. no need to be mean.

its definately practise! I had great difficulty when i first starting using tampons but i found that with the help of a little vaseline on the applicator and taking my time so i was relaxed, it was easy in no time.

i would steer clear of the vaseline tho..from what i understand from my doc. i was told it only helps you to get yeast infections and such!! use ky or something diff.!!

I read the directions on the box. They only tell the extreme basics, which is basically "Stick it in, and pull off the applicator." For beginners, that's not very good advice. I'm sorry if I'm not experienced enough for you, Snagglepuss.

Oh gods, yes, I've had this problem! Also remember that some vaginas slant to the right or left. This was my problem. I realized that my vagina slants right and so it made inserting tampons so much easier.
Good luck, and don't listen to Kingman.

Im sorry but when yr tense and feeling aprehensive its not a case of just reading instructions and sticking it up. especially if you think its going to hurt.
Some things i didn't say. Some brands do 'minis' now, i think theyre called, for really light flow. theyre much thinner and would be great to start with. Also what i used to find - and still do sometimes - that when yr dry the buggers are not going to go in. It might be worth using pads when you know yr flow is lite, and when you know yr bleeding try a tyampon as yrll be much wetter and it will slide in easily.
Good luck.

I had trouble at first too, and I had read the directions. You must just be a natural, Snagglepuss. I think for a lot of us it just takes some practice. I mean, you can read a book giving you directions on how to play the violin, but it still takes some practice before you're a virtuoso!
I definitely prefer rounded tip plastic. Good luck!

yeah, i definitely suggest slim fits! they're great when your just getting used to tampons... but i had to change often because they didn't absorb very well... but still, it's great starter!
