I see alot of mention of AA, NA, meetings, etc. Is this board for 12 steppers only or does it embrace all recovering addicts/alcoholics, regardless how they got/stay clean?

I am a recovering heroin addict on a slooooooooooooow methadone detox.

Hey Claudius,
This board is for anyone recovering from any addiction or anyone with any kind of addiction.
Glad you dropped by. How you recover is secondary if you are making progress and know that the responsibility for your recovery is all yours.
Peace

Hi Claudius,
I'm not a 12 stepper, but everyone on this board has been incredibly supportive. I stopped using coke a little while ago right when I realized that I was getting a bit out of control. I really appreciate the honesty on this board. TrickyDick and Christine were the first ones to stress to me that "a little bit out of control" usually isn't a little bit at all, and that I really did have to step up.

I hope you hang around!

Hi -

This board is simply a tool to help you stay clean - use it to ask for help, ask questions, say how you are feeling, and to listen to how other addicts feel and stay clean (or fall off) - kind of like a mini-meeting -

Where earth did the term "12-stepper" start? I go to AA/NA meetings - i HAVE to go to meetings to stay clean and sober, and I stress their importance to others to get clean, and more importantly, stay that way.

I hope that you will keep and open mind about meetings - remember, as drug addicts we certainly had MORE than an open mind about adding to our habit!!! I was a pretty hopeless cocaine addict - I shot and smoked it and would have ended up killing myself had I not finally sought help at a local AA meeting - I prefer AA to NA because so many people are addicts there as well, and there are way too many "active" people in my local NA group.

Ask other addicts who are clean and sober how they did it - I guarentee you will find that the common denominator is AA or NA - ask any addicts you know who went back to using WHY- the common denominator I have found is that they stopped going to meetings. GOod luck to you -

Thanks for the responses. Much appreciated. Thank goodness there are more ways then one to skin a cat. Otherwise we'd be in real trouble.
Be Safe.
