Hi. I'm a guy and I was recently diagnosed with HPV, and I stumbled onto this site somehow, and it's great. It's given me the chance to see other people having the same problems I have, and is helping me cope with this better.
My doctor said he could treat the skin warts with some sort of salycilic acid solution which I'm going to get on Friday. But I was wondering, is there any way to relieve the itching that can accompany these warts? It's unbearable sometimes, and has woken me up at night twice in the past week.
Also, I know that this virus is passed sexually, but is there a way you can get it otherwise? I ask because my doctor said i need to get a colorectal examination, which will go on my parents insurance, so i have to tell my parents something, because they will get a statement about me going there, but I don't want to divulge my sexual history to them (as I am gay and they dont' know! Never had any sort of anal sex though, does that matter?) So I was just wondering if there was any non-sexual way you can get these.

Because you’re a guy, I'm not sure if using vagisil anti-itch cream would help. There has to be some kind of anti-itching cream for men’s genitalia.
Since you don't want to tell your parents about your sexual history (I'm not sure if you are referring to they fact that they do not know you are gay or that you just don't want them to know what you are doing sexually). If you don't want to tell your parents that you are gay, just make some lie up about being with a girl (i know i know honesty is the best policy... but do what ever you think is best).
It took me three months after I found out I have an STD to tell my mom that I need her support and her medical insurance. I’ll give you the advice I was giving by a guy who told his father that he has HPV and HSV. He said to me “it's hard telling a parent, you could just tell one of them, the one you are closest too.” Good thing I picked the right parent to tell http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif I'm not saying that she didn't freak when I told her. She is just more understanding than my father would have been.

There are other reasons for having a rectal exam.
You can just tell your parents that you noticed some blood when you went to the bathroom, and the doc wants to check it out.
